My window for eligibility to file for N-400 opened on the 11th and I decided to wait to file for now. The prospect of there being any additional delay in getting the 10-year Green Card was a risk I was unwilling to take. It is true I have reacted to fears others have shared in this and other threads, but I can see why introducing another variable (such as filing for N-400 prior to approval of I-751) could disrupt current progress. For most of us, I think the wait to get Citizenship is more bearable than this limbo GC extension letter fiasco. I want the anxiety of "the letter" and its impending expiry behind me as quickly as possible. Risking a year's progress on I-751 for what might be a 6-8 month heads start on Citizenship didn't present enough upside for me to risk it.

My wife's window is on Feb 23rd. After much deliberation of the pros and cons, we both feel that its best to wait it out and allow ROC to be completed because coupling the N-400 and I-751 will further delay the process. This impacts her driver license because NJ MV would only allow her DL to expire based on the extension letter. We would have to constantly go to MV to extend her DL whenever we get a stamp from Info Pass. NJ N-400 processing time is 12 - 16 which means potentially her I-751 would be extended for another 12 months.

Most November filers are been approved, so it good you waited a while before filing for n400.

my window for n400 is open but I want to give it 3-4 months before applying for n400.

But what I'm saying is I didn't wait before applying. I just did it, looks like the i751 is being sped up and you guys should expect approvals in i751 before even getting an interview scheduled for the n400

Hi @ordjnb, I think that for some filers will be an advantage to file N-400 with pending ROC based on the processing time for N-400 at their local office. My office is Tampa and the time frame for N-400 applications is 5 - 14.5 months (as opposed to other offices where the minimum wait is 11 months). I am hoping that by applying for citizenship  now they will transfer my ROC case from CA to my local office and as you said, speed it up.

Yes, I was reading yesterday that a lot of approvals are flowing into the November 2017 filers which is great and is well ahead of schedule. We're all not far behind that here as February 2018 filers. I'd be willing to wait another 3 months in filing my N-400 to get the I-751 approval within that timeframe. I am seeing no evidence that filing N-400 speeds up a pending I-751 approval, only that it may get you ahead of the line in terms of waiting on N-400. But as I said earlier, while risk remains that you reset the clock on I-751 by filing N-400, I'm really reluctant to. 3 months extra waiting isn't material to me when I have a 10 year GC in my hands and the rest of my life as a US citizen. Ultimately, there's no right or wrong way and there doesn't seem to be much strategy to all this, either. Just personal preference and your tolerance for having variables in the mix.

Not saying applying for n400 speeds things up. But saying the i751 has been sped up so I don't see applying for the N400 slowing the i751 down. All from recent developments. But that's just my 2c

What receipt number do you guys put into the USCIS website? i am trying to use the extension letter number and it only gives me an error.

right now the website shows 15.5 to 21 month for the California service center - were they affected by the forest fires?

My wife called USCIS because she's been getting that same error and she was told it's an ongoing issue that they're aware of.

CSC has been just running behind for a long time, now. The processing time has actually come down a bit.
