Hello,

I got my N-400 interview 2 days ago. The officer conducted the I-751 interview the same day. I suspected they would do that so I had my wife go with me. The interview was rough. It lasted about 2 hours. The last 10 minutes were me and my wife together. Unfortunately the I-751 was not approved on the spot. For more details look at my post https://www.trackitt.com/usa-discussion-forums/i751/1899110363/case-under-further-review-after-i-751-interview/

Thanks

Interesting, though I'm still not worried about filing for ROC during I-751 because of this experience. I hate to say it, but where beneficiaries are from makes a difference to what type of interview they receive. Makes me so sad to type that. I can totally understand people being concerned due to their circumstance and the prejudices they face already and that's why they want to wait.

My husband and I have no loans/mortgages together. No kids either because we don't want children. It's just how our lives have ended up, we rent because we haven't found a city that's made us feel we want to buy a house and we've been careful/lucky enough to not need a loan. Not to say we're well off, we have no savings since we're both freelancers! Our financial situation gave our green card IO cause for concern due to the fact we have personal bank accounts as well as joint bank accounts. It's a matter of independence, we like to have our own money for personal purchases so we don't have to constantly ask each other for permission to buy something.

Despite that, I think even under intense grilling we'll be fine, we're in a genuine relationship and we've known each other for 16 years. Still...it would still suck to get such rough treatment! My window opens next week, if we can afford to I think I'll go ahead and apply for citizenship.

That's really what makes me worry. My wife is from a travel ban country, so I'm worried there will be even more scrutiny than usual. We have joint accounts, life insurance, own a home (with a corresponding mortgage) together, etc., so our evidence is pretty solid. But, having any degree of risk is worrying.

Mine's still stuck on "your case was received" but I don't think you'll get any kind of update while the govt's still shut down.

Hello,

So, as the Government is shut down, the current wait time for Vermont Office is 15.5 months to 18.5 months for Feb filers...what happens if (a Big IF i know), the 751 extension letter expires? Do they further extend that?

If there is a chance of having the extension letter expire, should we file for N400 while we wait?

Thank you

The partial government shutdown is not affecting USCIS, it's busy as usual.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services

Because much of USCIS's work is fee-funded, the agency is up and running, and telling all individuals to attend their scheduled interviews and appointments. The agency is also still processing applications, with a few exceptions. More information on the affected programs is available on their website. Some programs will be affected, including:

EB-5 Immigrant Investor Regional Center Program (not the EB-5 Program).

E-Verify: The free internet-based system allows businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees to work in the U.S.

Conrad 30 Waiver Program for J-1 medical doctors.

Non-minister religious workers.

Just came back from Sweden a couple of days ago. It was a breeze. SAS either didn't see or didn't care that my Green Card had expired. CBP only looked at my Green Card, concluded it was expired and then took a look at the extension letter and then we were done.

I'm eligible to apply for citizenship now but thanks to the shutdown we'll wait. We have plenty of savings to get us through this mess but we're still living frugally at the moment since we don't know how long this mess is going to go on.

I had been in and out for 3 times with this extended letter and stamp on my passport. Those 3 times with 3 different airports (port of arrival).

I went to stamp my passport before my 2 year conditional green card was expired.

I got only 6 months validity on my passport. Not sure why but I guess my green card was not expired yet but I have to leave the country and come back when it’s expired. It was valid for only for 2 trips. Before my 3rd trip I went back to get a new stamp and this time I got a year validity on my passport.

1st Entry - Was sent to secondary inspection room. Spent more than an hour in there cause there were so many cases before mine. It took less than 5 mins just to check my case status and I was released from the room with entry stamp. The officer took my expired green card and said they will have to destroy it cause it's expired. I traveled with my spouse during this trip to Europe.

2nd Entry - Was not sent to secondary inspection room. Was asked about my green card but I told the officer the story then he stamped the entry for me. Again I traveled with my spouse during this 2nd trip to Europe.

3rd Entry - Was again sent to secondary inspection room. The office didn’t seem to  believe in what I told him, and said I need to go to the inspection room to verify my stamp on my passport. He said normally we don’t keep your expired green card. It took me less than 10 mins to get stamp and was released from the inspection room. I traveled alone to Asia for this trip.

All above trips, I only showed the airline staffs the stamps on my passport (has never presented them my extended letter).

During the time I got my 2nd stamp, I asked the officer do I have to wait to get my 10-year green card or I can go ahead and apply for naturalization when I’m eligible. He said I can go ahead and apply. It takes so long for both 10-year green card and naturalization to be approved. So while waiting for my 10-year green card to be approved I can start queuing for naturalization. He further said that if I have not gotten my 10-year green card by the time this stamp is expired, I can come back in to get a new stamp. But I should be scheduled for an interview before that. I then asked if it is normal that we get an interview for the 10-year green card. He said normally yes.

Mine still says that the case was received (in February 2018). Maybe it's a glitch, or they are working on it. Hopefully you'll get some good news soon.

It's always helpful to read other people's stories on dealing with USCIS. I, personally, don't find this one as something I should be worried about. He got to do both interviews on the day N-400 interview was scheduled for, and even that it was a tough interview for I-751 and he didn't get approved on the spot, he got approved 3 weeks later. In his situation not having enough evidence in hand just delayed the approval because the immigration did, indeed, need more time to investigate. I agree with @-Shana-, that even under "intense grilling", if it is a genuine relationship, everything will be fine in the end.

My window opened last week. I'll wait until my husband and I file our tax return, so we have another transcript in addition, and then will be filing N-400.

No update on this end other than that I will file the N-400 shortly (that has more to do with stupid Dutch laws than anything else). If it delays so be it. I did however got an interesting mail today. Allegedly from the USCIS, but every link redirects to something with public.govdelivery.com I never heard from it and I'm assuming it is a phissing mail until I do more research. So everybody be aware of this. It looks really official apart from the weird address.

My window for eligibility to file for N-400 opened on the 11th and I decided to wait to file for now. The prospect of there being any additional delay in getting the 10-year Green Card was a risk I was unwilling to take. It is true I have reacted to fears others have shared in this and other threads, but I can see why introducing another variable (such as filing for N-400 prior to approval of I-751) could disrupt current progress. For most of us, I think the wait to get Citizenship is more bearable than this limbo GC extension letter fiasco. I want the anxiety of "the letter" and its impending expiry behind me as quickly as possible. Risking a year's progress on I-751 for what might be a 6-8 month heads start on Citizenship didn't present enough upside for me to risk it.

Speaking of the letter of extension... Has anyone here gotten the courtesy letter and sent it back to USCIS heard back from them? I sent it at the end of last year and specifically pointed out that my other extension letter will be expiring soon and hoped they would send me a new one... I am going to have to deal with them in a couple of months if I don't hear from them.
