This is only current advice from the lawyer. So, it can be changed in the future, I think. However, at this moment, I trust the lawyer.

So, here is my update. Earlier in the thread I mentioned that I got an extension letter but it was on white paper. Then someone suggested it might have been a courtesy notice. I went back and checked  and it was. The courtesy notice stated that the original letter had been mailed to the address I specified on form G-28. However, I would only file the form if I had an attorney, which I never had. So I called USCIS, talked to the tier 2 officer, because tier 1 was completely clueless. The tier 2 officer had no idea where my actual letter went and asked me what I wanted, I said I wanted the original 18-months extension mailed to me. All of this transpired at the end of August. I received my actual extension yesterday, dated 9/14. I was getting ready to FOIA USCIS to find out where they had e-mailed my extension. Makes me uneasy to think someone has all that info by mistake.

I am a little perplexed that the tier 2 rep asked you "what you wanted". Duh.. what I am entitled to?!

 

I've seen a few folks report mail getting delivered to the wrong addresses. It doesn't appear to happen all that often, but certainly unsettling to think that it goes on at all. Glad to hear you are through the other side of this at least.

Our 18 month letter was just the courtesy letter as well.  Since we still have 6 months at least before it expires, should we just wait for them to mail the 18 month letter or contact USCIS and get the actual 18 month letter?  I was under the assumption that we would get the actual 18 month letter once it gets closer to the 12 month one expiring.

Well, I just came back from Spain using the 12 month extension letter My expires green card and global entry.. At first I was so nervous ‘cause I didn’t what was gonna happen on my way back,. The day before of my return, I was so afraid, and feeling like I had made a huge mistake leaving the country in the middle of this tedious process, but then I convinced myself that nothing was gonna happen since I had not done anything illegal. But now, I can’t stop laughing at how stupid I was. In madrid, once at the airport, I went to the Air Europa line to start the checking process. An AE agent came to me and asked me for my documents, I gave her the letter and the green Card and she perfectly knew what the EX LE was. Then, she walked me to the counter, and Another person checked me in, and put a sticker on the my passport saying that my document were ok. I got to the gate on time and could flight back to Miami. Arriving, I went to the global entry kyosk and there was any officer there to help me at the moment. I tried to put my GC information manually to see if it worked in that way but i did not. Suddenly an officer came to me and asked me if I needed help and I explained that my GC was expired and that I had the extension letter, he asked me if a had a global entry card  which I responded yes. Right after that, He sent me directly to the officer ‘cause there wasn’t anybody in the line. What was really curious was that the officer got my documents  and in less that 1 minute without asking anything, gave me the documents back said to me go ahead. He didn’t even seal my passport. Very weird! But that was how it happened. So now waiting for my next trip.

Not sure. In my case I felt like I needed to call as the original 18 months letter went to an address other than mine (presumably "my" attorney's address, who I have never had). Anyway, I now know that the 18 months extension that I finally received was the result of the phone call I placed. I received a letter from the USCIS saying that they mailed my receipt notice (assuming the 18 months extension) to my address of record and as a courtesy are mailing me  a copy of it. Since I only got one I am assuming that's the copy they mailed as a "courtesy" (#######?). I am also assuming the actual receipt of notice that they mailed went to some other address. I will post updates if I receive anything else from them. I am making the assumption that I would not have received the actual 18 months extension had I not called because of the dates on the letters I have been receiving

8-25 -I received the courtesy letter stating that the actual extension went to my attorney

8-30 - called USCIS

9-14 - the date on the 18 months extension I finally received

9-14 - the date on the letter explaining that they are mailing me a copy of the 18 months extension as a "courtesy"

Seems all quiet again here as most have had some movements. Still a bunch of folks from both filing locations that are missing some data points which I am curious about.

Hey guys. This might be off topic but a rather important question so that I do not delay my case by making a mistake. 

Wow it's been another year and we moved again. 

For me its AR 11 form and where I'm supposed to send it says right on the paperwork itself. 

But for I-865 for my USC spouse it is not quite clear where we send the sponsors change of address. For the state of NV it should be Califirnia Service Center (?) where his petition is supposed to go?

I change my address online, no paperwork.
