Great to see CSCers are not required to get their Biometrics done after the long wait they had.

Just thought I'd let y'all know that my Georgia DL was only renewed for 1 year.

Just got a letter from uscis informing me that the uscis will use my previous fingerprints and other biometrics to process my ROC and that it’s not necessary for me to appear at ASC for biometrics appointment.  I guess the biometric wait is over and all I have to do is wait for approval 😃

Happy that things are finally moving along for our CSC brothers & sisters :) .

Although the fact that they're keeping the biometrics fee seems really dishonest but whatever.

Question for the VSC filers that have had their biometrics done: did your case update in your USCIS online account? I had my biometrics done last week and it's still not showing any update.

Yeah we are also CSC and got the letter waiving the biometrics appointment this afternoon. My husband asked if they keep the biometrics fee and I told him, they can keep whatever cash they want if they just get on with the task and process our applications. We waited nearly 9 months for them to pick up our file at TSC for our fiance visa a few years ago. We've served our time stressing about a wait. Take our money and just get it done

In answer to wbeem: Totally agree, just get on with it, I also waited in the backlog of all back logs at the Texas center a few years ago, so I don't really care if they want to keep my biometrics fee, just get on with it!

Great to hear some of us fellow CSC'ers getting updates!

Personally, I would prefer to have them use my wife's old biometrics and keep the fee. It's about a 2 hour drive to the local office, and would require both of us to take a day off work. I get paid time off, so it's not like it's money out of my pocket to miss a day, but on the other hand that's a day out of my vacation bank I'd rather use elsewhere. My wife doesn't have the same luxury at her job, so it's just missed wages, and doing the math, it's kind of equals out. Plus no need to drive 2 hours there and 2 hours back for a 10 minute appointment. So here's to hoping?

Hope everyone else gets some good news soon!

Also got the no need to show up for biometrics letter in the mail today. I do not view it as a choice - either wait a long time and receive the service or have it waved with no refund. I view it as extortion. First, I am told I have to submit my fingerprints, (although I have done it before) and pay a fee for the biometrics to be processed, then I am told that the old fingerprints are ok but they are still going to keep the money.

Like so many others today we received our letter from the CSC scheduling the Biometric appointment in Tampa for May 25th.  I was hoping my wife would not have to do the fingerprint thing again, but didn't think they'd use the previous prints because they've never been able to read her prints.  She had to have them retaken for the initial green card and because they couldn't read those, my wife had to take an oath and sign a form before an immigration officer during our interview.   Congratulations to everyone receiving their biometrics letter and let's hope this means the process will speed up from here on now.

Thank goodness CSC is finally moving! I'm really happy for everyone who got letters today! Though it's disappointing that there seems to be no order to the way they're processing. I am with the California Service Center - and we received a letter in the mail today (dated May 5, posted May 8) that they will be using our old security checks and biometrics.

Just updating for the chart/timeline. :) I did check my USCIS case status...the old website still says there is no information for the case and to try back again later. The new website says "case received" dated February 24. So if you're dependent on the case status, please check your mail still! I don't know why they're not updating the case status online...slightly concerning.

Good luck to everyone! This process sure does teach us patience...

USPS informed delivery is showing me a letter arriving from USCIS today. Sounds likely that it is one or other outcomes that others have had. Fairly excited to see which it is.

That’s right ! Odd, but I’ll take it ! 05/24/2018!

Thanks. You are our first CSC filer (that we know about) that has a scheduled appointment.

So Starsky this confirms what we were thinking, they are using previous fingerprints and saves us having to turn up at a ASC ( I would have had to drive to Jacksonville from Gainesville about 3 hour round trip) so I'm not complaining! yah!!!

My theory now is that they are having to hit quotas to keep them from being in violation of the process. There is probably a ratio of filers they need to send to biometric appointments and a ratio that they can let pass by with just a review of the previously submitted biometrics. I am sure it will be at random. To me, this explains the lack of a clear trend in what we are seeing develop here.

@klems10024 I'm sure at this point, CSC filers won't mind the money as long as their cases updates saying biometrics is completed.

I had mine on a 5/4 and status was updated 5/7.

17 hours ago, Slowloris said:

Trust me I do mind the money. I also mind the money I sent in for the I751 and it being later on combined with the N400 case as has happened with lots of other filers. We are being charged for a service but do not receive it.

This to me is a fascinating argument and one that I imagine has been made numerous times throughout the years.

I suspect that the USCIS has some terms or other that we have all unknowingly agreed to that gives them the right to do this and that the fee is theirs regardless of whether we technically go for our biometrics or we don't. Many of us thought we paid for an interview during our residency process but never had them.

The fact of the matter is, I would think it is very common for USCIS to have to employ these methods to release a backlog in the process. They would have considered the fact that folks would expect a refund. Their argument will be we delivered the result you paid for, don't moan about how we did it... (but I'll leave an attorney to say that more eloquently).

All this to say that I suspect any thought you would get a refund for biometrics that is not required is probably futile.

Did they tell you why they only renewed it for a year? When I renewed mine last year they gave me a 5-year card. I know it seems to fluctuate state by state but my oh my, a 1-year renewal seems real tight to me?!

Thanks for confirming. I've updated the tracking table. See my comments earlier in this reply, it seems random to me who is chosen and who isn't, so I would not stress yourself trying to understand why.

Thanks for this. I think you raised a really good point that we should no longer rely on the case tracking facilities at USCIS for updates. I too have a letter arriving today from USCIS despite there being no status changes to either the new or old USCIS portals.

Finally, here is our tracking table with some healthy heartbeat for California filers. For ease of reference, those with an asterisk next to their date for biometrics are those that have been able to skip the physical appointment. I was contemplating calling them lucky sheep.... ;):P
