Hey guys, while I'm super thankful to have such an amazing forum for help and support I can't say I'm thrilled to be back!! It was nice while it lasted ;).

I was printing out all my evidence yesterday and low and behold, I ran out of paper, so I have to wait until tomorrow to continue the printathon. My window opens on Saturday so it's all good.

Woah, Cosmos, so sorry to hear that your package got mailed back to you! Based on the links starsky provided seems like a common occurrence when using USPS? Even with flat rate envelopes too which is ridiculous. I think I'll go to FedEx with my application having read about these other experiences.

In case you're unaware, the one caveat with using FedEx is that you're still using USPS for the final leg of the transit: http://www.fedex.com/us/smart-post/outbound.html

To be fair, I think the instances of USPS making errors are pretty low (you don't see huge volumes when you search here, for example) but of those you find, the common theme is incorrect postage or an error by the clerk, and both of those could actually be the senders fault (although I'm sure that's probably not the case here with Cosmos22). I must admit, the issue Cosmos22 highlighted has made me very nervous about my package that is supposed to be arriving there tomorrow. We shall see.

If you search that reason here most of the people said it was either a case of not enough postage paid or an error made by the mail clerk. I'm not reading anything about mailboxes being full or nobody being around to sign for them. I feel for you, waiting to find out why would frustrate me like crazy.

Thank you for even researching this for me! :) My tracking number now states that my package was delivered and is sitting at my front door as of 11:30am. I am at work, so the wait is killing me haha, I will find out why this happened once I get home tonight. I will keep you all posted.

The exact same address I used, I also used USPS but just Priority Mail. Did not specifically say no signature, but guessing since its a P.O. Box it will just get accepted without one.

Hopefully its a bug in their system and it changes back for you. Was it a large package? I used a mailing box due to the size of the folder I sent. I did have a concern it might be too large but its what the USPS lady recommended. All kinds of things go through your mind as to why it would get rejected. Not sure they would attempt delivery if there wasn't sufficient postage on it, but I could be wrong.

Edit: One thought crossed my mind, that's if you're too early filling? Since USCIS will refuse your application unless you're within the 90-day timeframe of your GC expiring. (checked your timeline but couldn't find anything about that).

Sorry for budding in.. When you file too early your package gets rejected, which happens after the package is delivered, opened and looked at. That's when they determine wether the filing is correct or not. It doesn't just get returned to sender after not being delivered properly in the first place, they actually have to receive and open the package before they can determine if it's going to be rejected or accepted.

Who knows what the issue is, maybe wrong postage as someone mentioned. Either way, sucks to have to resend it, and pay the shipping again.

GC expires 4/4/2018, so we are in the 90 day window. It's still a mystery to me as of now.. let's take bets as to what it is lol

Yeah, you are right, seems like an unlikely scenario. Hopefully my Post Office doesn't mess it up when I go to send my file! I'm guessing you sent it via USPS too?

You're absolutely right. My logic was off there. Naturally, you wonder if USCIS has the burden of the cost of shipping a package back to a sender or whether they utilize this through the shipper. I suspect the number of packages being returned because of early filing is quite high.

Go with what you feel most comfortable with, you'll get a variety of opinions from here and elsewhere. Just choose something you can track reliably. Yes, I used USPS Priority Mail. My package should arrive tomorrow at some point.

Ours arrived in CA this morning and the delivery status hasn't changed (naturally I was worried after what happened to Cosmos!), so hopefully we'll get that NOA soon. Cosmos, sorry that happened to you! Definitely curious what reason they give you for returning it.

So here is the scoop, one of my theories was correct...not enough postage!!! I can't believe it, I have to resend everything again tomorrow and battle with post office. I better not have to repay everything again, just the difference that USCIS stated on envelope. Unreal clerical error! The kicker is they overnighted my package back to me, that cost more than the $13. At least it's nothing crazy, just frustrating. Thank you everyone :D

USCIS has nothing to do with the amount of postage on a package.  Perhaps you stated the problem incorrectly and you were referring to USPS not USCIS.

Yes Greg, I'm referring to the CA lockbox facility. Whoever it was that wrote on my package and returned it, regardless it is getting reshipped today and I'm thinking of just going to UPS instead and eating my prior shipping money already spent. I don't feel comfortable using USPS right now after this.

I take some comfort in the fact you got it returned to you. I dread the thought of having to print out a second copy of the entire file (even though I realize its recommended). Do you have to pay the return fee as well or does USCIS pay for that? Amazing to me that it made it all the way out there and was then returned, strikes me it shouldn't have made it past the first distribution center. Glad its nothing more sinister, though!

I know! We were very happy it came back to us in one piece. I didn't pay for any return fee, that's what's so crazy to me. Since I sent the package overnight delivery, they returned it the same way which had to cost some $$ just to tell me their wasn't enough postage on the package. I can't believe it didn't get flagged either and made it all the way to the lock box facility. Anyway, what I learned here is for me I will always go to UPS for sending important documents. I am re-sending our packet overnight again this afternoon, so hopefully it will get there AGAIN tomorrow and get accepted this time. :) Good luck to everyone, Let me know when they received yours, and get NOA1.
