Hi Rahill,

My priority date is the day after yours so we're in this together. My husband is the US Citizen and has petitioned for me and my daughter. So sorry to hear you were denied! That's awful. What happened?

They denied him at the interview after talking to him for a few minutes. They said they would send a notice in the mail giving the reason and we never received anything. There were no red flags. We actually lived together for 6 months in his home country. We had plenty of documentation regarding our relationship that goes back 3 years. We were one of the unlucky ones I guess. I've retained a lawyer who looked over our previous documentation and the interview questions and she couldn't find any reasonable issue that they could have. She called it "BS" and....anyways we are filing again with a lawyer this time.

Hello,

May I ask why your case was denied? I thought being denied was very rare. Was it because of missing any papers. That is my worst fear- going through this process for a year and then getting denied.

Yeah, they don't have to give you a reason at the interview. They tell you that they will mail you an explanation but our interview was 6 months ago and we have never received any explanation. There were no missing papers and we couldn't get any additional information from the embassy who simply told us that our application was no longer there (it's also not at UCIS...still).

Sorry. Don't mean to scare you. I do think it is rather rare (in the larger scheme of things) but Ethiopia is considered a "high fraud" country and denials are not uncommon. That said, we had all our documentation (proof of relationship) and paperwork in order, so it happens even to those who do everything "right." It was indeed our worst fears come true. In any case, we're doing the only thing we can do. We have a lawyer and we're trying again. Not giving up yet!

Wow that is so crazy. I cant believe they did that event with you being so prepared. In my case I have never lived with my husband nor have any accounts on both of our names. The most I could do was submit Affidavit letters and Pictures from when we knew each other as kids (12 years old) and now with wedding photos. I have chats and things like that, these would date back to 2012 but nothing really in legal form.

This does scare me just because I am starting to see that more cases are being looked at more in depth than before and with a possibility of an Immigration Reform coming, I don't know how it will be affecting all of this.

Amazing job staying positive and doing this journey again! Its great that you have a lawyer this time too. He will be able to stay attentive and make sure all documents get processed well. Others that i know did it with a lawyer and they were approved. I personally am trying to do it on my own. Those lawyer fees are steep in the state of Florida and this process is costly as is. I wish you the best of luck and we will be on this journey together. My priority date is February 13th and it was routed to Nebraska.

My receipt number displays as invalid in the USCIS website and when i called they said the case is fine and it is just the the website is down. I see that this is a lie since im the only one in this forum having this issue but he assures me my petition is fine and comes up in their computers with my receipt number. I guess i will have to just wait and see what is to come.

Incredible that you're going through it a second time over. I just keep trying to tell ourselves if we can get through this, we'll be so much stronger for it - obviously, it's much more difficult for my 8 year old. She sees him as her Dad and misses him so much - a year+ feels even longer to a child :/

I wonder if they have a quota? Only certain number of applications can be accepted? It sounds like your thoughts of them being suspicious of applications from Ethiopia, are most likely the answer - but I still feel so sorry for you.

All we can do is wait and hope. Good luck!!

USCIS: I wrote to them and this was their reply:

Thank you for contacting USCIS Manila, processing times for I-130 application might take 30-90 days. We will send you  a notification via email if we need additional information

Sincerely,

USCIS MANILA

I was hoping for more precise information, but Homeland Security first reviews the case, and they transfer it to the Department of State, Nd then we get our approval notices with further instructions, and the Manila Case Numbers shortly after that. We use those Manila Case Numbers to access our DS-260shich we fill out Online, printing the DS-260 Completion confirmation page, and off from that we print the scheduling of our interviews. I think that is the process. We filed our Petitions February 22, 2018 in Manila DFC.

I still haven’t received my NOA1.. cheque was cashed this Monday march 05th.. and documents were received by Chicago lockbox in feb. 25.

Is it normal for NOA1 to take this long?

I thought it was 7-10 days after cheques were cashed so you can expect it by next Friday - don't worry :)
