It's frustrating, sure. It would take about 2 months for me to get a resident visa to live in Germany and I could apply after I moved there. But, for us that's not an option b/c of my kids and my job. My fiance says the same thing as you, however.

My guess is that more people want to immigrate to America than to Germany or UK. Also, since 9/11 obviously we've had stricter policies. I'm not saying it's better, worse, more important, etc. but that's just my guess.

Because the US is the land of opportunity and thousands of people like you, myself and others want to make it our permanent home. UK and Germany... not so much.

Agreed. I actually tried to look up stats for immigration to UK or Germany (or other related countries) and got sidetracked.

I think it also has a lot to do with the immigration laws changing after 9/11. Pre 9/11 my friend's mother did this same thing and she said it took her 2 weeks to get the visa for her now husband.

I agree with everybody. I know somebody from India who married a Canadian Citizen and it the person about 45 days to get to Canada after the wedding. It has to do with the fact that more people want to come to U.S. than any other country in the world. Another reason is that there are lot of people who engage in fake marriages to come to U.S. And because of those people, honest people like us have to wait longer.

Depends on what day of the week they receive your paperwork, and how you were holding your tongue when you signed the paper :P James and I gave up after a year and a half and 3 lost packages of ####### we sent them. I know others it has taken longer, and others that it took only a couple of months.

Wow, glad my husband and I decided to take the US route then, too. Almost considered bringing him up to Canada thinking it would be faster, but from what I've heard lately, Canada is taking about the same amount of time to process immigration visas as the US now.

On a side note, it took a friend of mine 1 week to get a workers visa for New Zealand. Now THAT'S fast =p
