Hi I got SSN when I was on F-1 in 2010 and I went back to India in 2013 after my study. And now I am a partner in USA LLC 10% and they issue K1 to me every year. My accountant told me that I can not use that SSN for K-1 purpose and need to apply new ITIN number. Not sure what to do. I live in India and I have B1-B2 visa to travel to USA. I come once in while for my business purpose only.

Can I keep  using the same SSN for K1 purpose or get ITIN.

Thanks for help in adviance.

SSN is for life, not sure why you need an ITIN.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

If you are an alien and not residing in the USA then you need an ITIN

If you have a SSN you are not eligible for ITIN

The ITIN cannot be used in place of an SSN (if eligible for the latter) for tax and wage reporting.
