It is risky. If you really want to do that, think about travel insurance. Personally I wouldnt do that.

It really is..I might consider travel insurance then, I wouldn't want to pay three times the price I could pay 3 months in advance...and I would love for my family to do that too so they could also come to the wedding (which I plan to do as soon as I arrive!)

Just so you know, once in US territory I even tried to call the airline to let them know I would not take my flight back and they said they were ok with it. They wouldnt cancel or anything....

Wait, they wouldn't cancel it?

Eventually it will get cancelled but the airline said they could use that way back ticket if I wanted to reschedule in a 90 days time frame. After that it would just be cancelled. So, technically they could still accept my flight change with a fee.

Hey,

anyone able to decipher the below message for me?

I asked the us embassy via their contact email form if I could Retain my passport at interview and then submit my passport after in order to get my visa (just trying to work around currently planned work travel dates and having my passport)

this was their response:

At your interview, you may request the return of your passport if you wish to. However, if you submit your passport for visa issuance at a later date, you must allow additional time - at least seven to ten working days - for the application to be processed.  Furthermore, you should expect the visa application to be refused under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) pending submission of the passport

any ideas guys? Sounds ok at first and then very not ok!?!!

I'm assuming it means that the if you choose to keep your passport, the visa will initially be logged as refused pending you handing you passport in.

I think its not a flat-out refusal, but more like putting an official "approval" on hold till you hand in your passport.

I've looked online and this page explains it a bit more.

Hope this helps!

That's what I would do. U have 4 months from the date u get noa2 approval to have interview. If u can. Do medical prior to traveling and interview once ur done traveling.

My sympathies. Would you say better now than later or the process being as long as it has been lately took its toll over time?

Again I'm sorry

Those are GREAT prices. I just booked my wife from RDU to MNL and it was $1,300. I hope those rates are around when you need to book your flight. I have found that It's cheaper to fly to MNL then it is to fly from MNL especially on PAL.

Hi Green,

I'm hoping to have all things visa wrapped up by mid November. Nonstop flights from JFK to MNL for Nov/Dec dates one-way PAL are as low as $548. I can figure out the return details for me and my fiancee later. :D I am about 1.5 hours from IAD and RDU but I plan to use IAD for domestic flights before international. Hopefully all of us won't have much more time to wait. :D

The time definitely took a toll.  With him being as far away as he is, frequent travel was not an option.  When you are living separtate lives so far apart, makes it real real tough.
