Hey everyone, hope you guys are having an awesome Friday/Saturday :) It's Saturday here and I'm kinda bored... so just out of curiosity but where are your POE? Mine's LAX, and will be living in LA. I've lived in Seattle for a while but never lived in LA so I'm a bit anxious about how my life goes there...

HI all,

There is a 90% chance that POE will be JFK NYC with a 5% chance of IAD Washington D.C.  I find that the majority of east coast inbound international traffic is routed to NYC even if you live in a different major metropolitan area in the eastern USA.  I prefer IAD but flights to JFK from Manila are more flexible and have much more options.

I feel so out of the loop. I have no idea what this even means or how to login to check my case or what paperwork I should even be gathering at the moment! Am I the only one who is so lost??

Don't feel all out of the loop, you are not! And I'm sure you're not the only one that is lost.

What the OPs message means is: There is a 90% chance that the Point of Entry (airport where he/she will be entering on the K1) is going to be JFK (John F Kennedy airport) in  NYC  (New York City) with a 5% chance of IAD (Dulles airport in Washington D.C. ) I find that the majority of east coast inbound international traffic is routed to NYC even if you live in a different major metropolitan area in the eastern USA.  I prefer IAD but flights to JFK from Manila are more flexible and have much more options.

All airports have so-called 3-letter-codes, the one for Frankfurt is FRA, Cologne is CGN, Atlanta is ATL...etc.

Depending on where you are flying to in the US as your final destination, your POE is going to be at the International Airport you will land first. Take me as an example: I will be living and flying to El Paso, TX. Depending on the airline, route and airport of departure, I will most likely be going through Atlanta or Dallas. This is my POE and the passport/visa check will be done there.

On the second part: check out the K1 Guide http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide and scroll down to What to send to your fiance once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2). You and your fiancé can start working on gathering as much paperwork as you can at this point.

Also, check out the Frankfurt General Consulate's list of documents you will need for your interview, you can find it here: https://de.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/Instructions-for-IV-and-K-Visa-Applicants-1.pdf

I am currently getting my vaccinations in preparation of the medical, I have gotten my birth certificate, divorce certificate, etc.

Checking your case: there is an old and new website, check both. You can also download the USCIS app to your mobile phone.

Old website, same info as apps: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

New website need to log in: https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov

Hope that helps. If you need more info, try the search functions on visajourney or go to the Guides.

Can someone explain why in here https://gy.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/fiancee-visa/the-interview/ it says to fill out a DS-160 which is a non imigrant form, but the K1 visa is considered an immigrant visa, right? https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ has both 160 (non immigrant) and 260 (immigrant)

Check out the first paragraph of the K1 visa guide on this site:

What is a K-1 Fiance Visa?

A K-1 Visa (also known as a Fiance Visa) is a nonimmigrant visa Visa issued to the fiancé(e) of a United States citizen. The K-1 Visa allows the visa holder to enter the United States for up to 90 days during which time they may get married and file for Adjustment of Status (to obtain a "green card" and become a Legal Permanent Resident of the US). After filing for Adjustment of Status they may reside in the US beyond the 90 day K-1 Visa validity while their Adjustment of Status application is processed. While the K-1 Visa is legally classified as a non-immigrant visa, it usually leads to important immigration benefits and is therefore often processed by the Immigrant Visa section of United States Embassies and Consulates worldwide.

Gotcha, thanks for the info.

Yes, so helpful thank you. So is your POE just the airport you are most likely to fly into? Does it matter? I'm in Philly, so I'm assuming it will be Philly? That's where he flies into (in fact he just flew home today...wahhhh).

I did start looking at the paperwork after NOA2 this weekend. Thank you. Doesn't look too bad. He has the birth certificate and divorce certificate. Needs the police certificate, which I guess he can get now (says 12 months) and then has to have it translated into English (why?? so weird). He has no vaccine records although has them all, so will have to get them all again I guess (is that what you're doing?). And then I will have to complete the I-864 but that doesn't look too bad. I see why people start doing this ahead of time! I'll save this fun stuff for July lol.

In terms of checking for the case, the instructions for creating an account for the new website say  to create an account if you want to:

---File an application, petition, or request online

---Access information about your case and you received either a Case Passcode from your attorney or accredited representative or an Account Acceptance Notice from USCIS

I don't have a passcode or an account acceptance notice from USCIS. So do I not do this?

When I go to the old site and put in the receipt number it just says my case was received on February 13th. Am I missing something?

Thanks so much!

Just out of curiosity how long has it taken recently for the k1’s to be approved? And are there any lucky ones who have been approved quicker? Have any of you tried to look out at any timelines or approvals ? I see people getting excited here thinking they are now working on nov, I saw a December filer with NOA2 this June.

Makes me 🤔 sometimes on how they work with their cases, is it from time to time or is it the way it’s organized....

Right now they are working around December 14th. So an average of 185-190 days minimum.

But yes, there are still cases from November, October and even before them that haven't been approved yet.
