I have been told that it would be prudent to get my Thai fiance her certificate of being single ( and get it certifiably translated ) birth certificate ( again translated by a certified translator ) and the police report ( which is supposedly already in English ).  This is to save time when they actually request this stuff, what is everyone's thoughts?

Thanks!  Andrew

Check with the requirements of your embassy before you pay for translations. Most embassies take documents in both the native language of the nation, and in English. A translated birth certificate could come in handy in the US though.

Hi everyone.  I am new to this forum.  I haven't started the process yet.  Can someone answer this for me?  I was told that for 2018 the new rule is I have to go overseas & be with my fiancé & return the same month.  I also can only start the process of filing I-129F within the same month.  It used to be within 2 years.  Please verify which is correct.  Thanks.

That is not true at all. The requisite remains the same: you have to have met within the two years preceding the application.

I'm going to be visiting my fiance at the end of June. We expect it to be our last visit before he moves to the US! Is there any paperwork that he will need for the application or interview that I can take with me and leave with him instead of mailing? I was thinking about signing a new letter of intent, but that may not be recent enough by the time we finally get to interview stage. Any ideas? Is anyone else thinking about taking documents with them when they visit instead of mailing them?

I'm not really going to worry about sending documents (affidavit of support and new letter of intent) until we get a NOA2. It still takes around 2 weeks for the NVC to process and forward the petition to the embassy, in the case of an electronic transfer, and longer if they have to mail it the old fashioned way. That's plenty of time for most places to receive a Priority Mail document envelope from the US. Absolute best case scenario for my fiancee and I is an interview one month after NOA2 when the NVC time and wait time after the medical exam for the embassy to receive the results are factored.

You can take letters with various dates on them. He can use whichever is most recent.

No just make sure you have pictures with the both of you and his family together

You can do both. Always better to be safe than sorry. It won't hurt to have one and not need it, but it could hurt to not have one and have the consulate officer expecting one.

GUYS IT'S ALMOST JUNE SDLFKJSDFKJSDF

Also - Since February, how often have you seen your fiancé?

Yes! Definitely feel like a corner was turned when we hit day 100 last Saturday.

I am fortunate - I visited my fiancée in April for about 9 days and will be going again in mid-July for 10 days.

Being able to see each other every couple months has certainly made this process much easier. It gives us something positive to focus on, plan, and look forward to other than our petition.

02/06/18 - Sent I-129F Package to Texas Lockbox

02/08/18 - USCIS received package

02/14/18 - Notification of NOA1 (Text and Email)

02/20/18 - Hard copy of NOA1

08/17/18 - NOA2 Notification (email & website)

08/20/18 - Hard copy NOA2 received

09/04/18 -  Case received at NVC

09/05/18 -  NVC Case number assigned

09/20/18 - Embassy Received Case “Ready”

10/01/18 - Medical Exam Appointment

10/03/18 - Interview Appointment - Approved pending Medical Exam test results

12/14/18 - Visa Received
