Don't ride the train...

Since December we've had 3 fatal train crashes (that I'm aware of).

Trains have been around for centuries now. They run on set tracks. Is that really so hard to keep safe?

Plus the DC one carrying Republicans, and the one in Washington state in December.

(My title isn't the title of the link because I'm not just sharing the link, I'm making a general statement. Is that okay or against the TOS? I can't keep track)

I can honestly say, I have never ridden a train in the US with tha exception of back in my kiddie days at the amusement park.  I have ridden trains in Russia and Korea however, the Russian trains are slow and seem to stop a lot, but I did enjoy the Korean high speed trains.  In their case, they run on dedicated tracks.

I have been involved in accidents in a car, bike, motor bike.

(How many accidents have there been involving any of those since December?)

But never on a train.

Ya but to me a car seems inherently more dangerous. It can move in any direction. There are many of them all travelling on the same paths.

A train has a track. It can go forward or back. That should be a pretty simple thing to do safely.

My great great grand father was killed in a train crash in 1915. It was the worst train crash in British history, over 2 hundred dead. I've read a lot about that disaster. The inherent problem then, as now is that trains move fast in a straight line, but they can't swerve and they can't stop quickly. Like nuclear reactors, failure doesn't happen often, but it tends to be catastrophic when it does, and even a small mistake can be deadly.
