1. This is just based on what I read and by no means am I saying this will be definitely the case for you but I looked at some timelines on this site for New York City field office and 3 filings in Jan and Feb have reported getting their interview scheduled 3 months after filing. If you base it only on that, there’s a possibility you may be done with the whole process before your travels in September. But you and no one on here can know for sure if that will be the case. In reality it depends on if your security checks are done, the number of applicants and how fast the office is moving.

2. Again just based on posts I’ve read, people’s experiences on rescheduling have varied, some people get rescheduled almost right away and have to only wait a month while others have had to wait several months.

3. It depends on the local field office because they’re the ones who do the scheduling for the interview appointments.  You can’t compare the offices to each other. As far as how they schedule in a particular office, in theory it should be in order based on filing date as long as the application is good and security checks are cleared. Sometimes it does appear to go out of order and seems random but who knows why that is.

I can easily prove that theory wrong.  I’ve never been married and my interview is scheduled way before my estimated completion time.

I applied under the 3 year rule and still waiting.

Hi ilyak,

Where did you apply for the passport? Did you choose the expedited service? Did you need to hand in your citizenship certificate? Thanks.

Hi humbleguy,

  • I applied at a passport agency desk right at the ceremony. Since it was a relatively large ceremony (150 people!), the Buffalo Passport Agency came out to Rochester and took applications on the spot. Luckily (for me), very few people had photos available and nobody besides me had their application filled out in advance, so there was no line to apply.
  • I did choose the expedited service based on the provided estimate of 4-6 weeks for routine service - didn't really need it, but didn't want to potentially wait a month and a half either.
  • And yes, I believe you always have to provide the original naturalization certificate when applying for your first passport.

Note: based on the timelines in the 2017 and 2018 passport application threads, if you have an option of applying at a passport agency or their pop-up desk, it will save you at least a few days of additional waiting time compared to applying at an acceptance facility or the post office.

Hope this helps when the time comes!

Thanks for this info.  Will you get your naturalization certificate back with your passport?  If so...I wonder if they keep it unfolded and pristine.

Anyone know?

Hey Guys,

There used to be a website, where you could check which month they are processing after putting in your field office.

I cannot seem to find it anywhere... :o I think it was yellow colored columns on the bottom of a website...

Do you know if it's still exist, or they converted it to this? https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

It’s that same website. They no longer list it that way, just the way you see it now.

Thank you. I liked that better though, at least you knew where they are at...

Is there anything similar to that? I found this one, but they no longer updating it: http://web.utk.edu/~lyle/n400.html

Well, 12 years after I first came to the United States for more than a couple of weeks, here it is:

image.png.d9ca6a6b18b8d496330aa086e86cbbfe.png

The passport application process was the fastest (and cheapest!) stage of the journey: it only took about 72 hours from application to delivery of the passport book and card. For those who were wondering about the naturalization certificate - it came in the same USPS Priority Mail Express envelope. It was not folded and looks exactly like it did on the day it was issued. It's a rather flimsy piece of paper and it costs something $555 to replace, so  I'm going to use a vacuum sealer to seal it in plastic without actually laminating it.

Finally, to everyone on this forum who provided support, insight, or just listened to my anxious venting and commiserated - thank you so very very much. This would have been much harder to do alone. And to everyone still waiting for this little blue book - GOOD LUCK!

All I can say is CONGRATS US CITIZEN! What a moment! Smells good huh!

Nope there isn’t. It wasn’t really that accurate anyways. They pretty much just posted the oldest file they were working on. People would get interview letters even though it said it was only working on cases from months before.
