Thanks! It appears it doesn't quite show what I'm seeking when I just enter a case number. What seems to change - without further external indication - is the 'Next Steps' field when you create an account on the same site, log in, and add your receipt number under 'My Cases'. When that's done' , your receipt number is added to the tracker, and when you click on it, it shows a 'Case History' on the left, and 'Next Steps' on the right.

If you have the patience, I wonder if you - and anyone else - could add their pending cases and list what 'Next Steps' says. It seems to me the Next Steps gives a soft status update even without any notification being sent otherwise. I've seen mine change, but I can't remember what mine used to say. Mine currently says: "We will prepare your case for officer review.  If we need more information, we will notify you."  . However, my main status still says 'biometrics received'.

That's an old website, right?

same password and ID?

No, this is not the old ELIS site. This is a separate case tracker website, not your personal USCIS account. I believe you need to register a separate ID and password (though you can always choose the same credentials), not what you have for  https://my.uscis.gov/account/applicant

if you go to uscis.gov and create a login and add your case. the next steps says that "we will prepare your case for officer review"

Right . What I am trying to do here is to see if this Next Steps changes when a persons background check is complete , to ‘we will prepare your case for officer review’ , even though the regular status has not updated to ‘in line for interview’ or anything better . Essentially , I’m trying to poll people to see if they report different ‘next steps’ Statuses between FP and official receipt of an interview letter.

I did my FP on 2/22/18. Next steps for me says " We will prepare your case for officer review.  If we need more information, we will notify you."

although the other websiter says " we reviewed your biometrics"

That is exactly what mine says too (Dec 2017 filer with Jan 12 FP date). I'd like to see if someone who just did FP but whose background check likely hasnt completed , also says the same status message for 'Next Steps' or whether there are different ones . If so, it suggests that Next Steps may be tracking background check updates even before one gets 'in line for interview' or 'interview scheduled' .

I did biometrics 2/20 and mine also says “We will prepare your case for officer review.  If we need more information, we will notify you.”

I thought I read somewhere that they no longer do the “in line for interview” as a case status. I believe I read on here that it stopped sometime late last year. None from January filers have reported the in line for interview as a status.

Yes CTgal18, this is exactly why I am asking . I would really like to know if there are multiple Next Steps statuses after FP suggesting whether or not Background check has cleared .

If someone knows for certain (or with a high probability etc FP less than 24hrs age) that their background check isn’t done, and Next Steps for them says something other than ‘will prepare your case for officer review’ , then we can consider that Next Steps provides us an idea whether we have cleared background checks and are in line , but without an explicit status update telling us that :-)

Ah, got it. I was a little confused as to why you were asking but I understand now.

I feel like they’ve now made case updates vague so they can feed you any answer they feel like it when you ask why your case is taking so long.

When I had to replace my green card a few years back, I called after 3 months because at the time it said it should have been ready in 3 months. The person I talked to fed me the line about how they were still processing applications from the month before I filed the I-90, yet my green card magically appeared in the mail 5 days later.

Yes vague statuses and the ability to provide misleading responses are one thing . But here we are dealing with three IT systems :

1. The old ELIS site . Not important to the topic

2. The myaccount personal account site one sets up with online filing or after paper filing

3. This status tracker site, which is also used by the iPhone and android app . The Next Steps on this site are what I am interested in .

The status trackers Next Steps may be reporting soft updates on the background check process that we cannot otherwise see . Since many wonder whether their BC has cleared , it would be very useful to know if there are different Next Steps after FP suggesting it .

I'd add they also use probably one of their systems as primary and data is updated first there.
Then some process runs and data from one database just synced with the other. That might be why
status page is showing updates first and then we see updates later in online cabinet
