Well, today I had my interview so I would like to share my experience with you all. my interview was scheduled for 09:30am at local office in Kansas City Missouri. My wife and I arrived around 09

N-400 Interview - Jacksonville, FL   I spent the night in Jacksonville - the interview was at 10:15 a.m. and I did not want to deal with traffic, (possibly) deer, construction or the stress

Had my combo interview at the Phoenix field office today 25 Jan 2019 , 1:45pm .

 

Arrived at 1pm and noticed so many people are waiting for their interview , the guy sit beside us mentioned his interview timing was 12:45pm but still not calling him , I figure it might be a long wait for me .

 

The officer finally called my name at 2:25pm , my husband was following me into the interview room . The officer mentioned since I have a pending I751 , she will conduct the ROC interview first . After she verified me and my husband , she start to review her documents , those documents was sent during my removing of condition in year 2017 .

 

Question she asked was :

1) How me and my husband met ?

2) When and where we get married ?

3) When we move to our new address ?

4) What type and year of our car ? Is both name on the car ?

5) Asked about our health insurance , who is the primary ?

 

After reviewing few more pages , she said she recommend to approve my I751 . After that she walk my husband back to the waiting area and come back for my N400 interview .

 

She start to ask about the civic question :

1) Name one war fought by the United States in the 1900s?

2) Who is in charge for the executive branch?

3) Who is the Chief Justice of the United States now?

4) We elect a U. S Representative for how many years?

5) Who is the " Father of Our Country"?

6) The House of Representative has how many voting members?

 

she then start with the reading test : Who live in the White House

Follow by writing test : The President live in the White House

She then said I passed the civic test and mentioned need to review few more documents with me . I updated the officer about my trip back to Singapore in year 2018 and a minor mistake about my last employment year . She corrected and ask me to acknowledge .

 

Before we end , she said she is recommending me for approval and have to wait 6-8 weeks before I receive letter about my oath ceremony. Hooray !! I am a step closer to the finish line ...lol..

 

I do have a question though, I don't have my Green Card anymore , the field office took it back two year ago after it expired , all I have is multiple extension stamp in my passport , what should I bring during oath ceremony ? copy of those extension stamp ? I know by right I need to drop and return my Green Card , but in my case , the field office already took it back , what should I do ?

Good morning 

 

I filed in February 2018 in SLC and finally today I got an update stating that my interview has been scheduled but no letter yet in the document section.

My completion time after my biometrics was April 2019 so the USCIS estimation was accurate for my case.

I want to update myself in here. Husbands interview is March 5th. But what does "in line" mean? Do I just list his interview date or notification online, date letter received and interview?

Interview complete! 

Recommended for approval!! 😁

 

My interview was at 1pm and I walked into USCIS Houston office at 12.35pm. The line for check-in was long (20-30 people) but it moved relatively fast. Once checked in, it was about 12.50pm I sat and waited for my name to be called. While sitting and looking around at the most diverse group of people I likely had ever shared a room with,  it struck me how amazing this country is that they open their door to so many each year and each of us in this room were hoping to be approved to chase our own "American Dream". My wife, who was with me got a little emotional as she was reminded that each of the immigrants waiting to be called back for interview have made significant sacrifices in leaving our home countries, our families, our cultures in order to happily become citizens of this great country. 

At about 1.05pm I was called to door 1 and met a very friendly officer, she escorted me to her office and I swore my application was truthful and she confirmed ID. Greencard and Driver license. 

We went right into the civic questions, I was asked:

  1. Who is in charge of the executive branch?
  2. What is one freedom form the First Amendment?
  3. If the President can not longer serve who becomes President?
  4. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe on of them. 
  5. What is one reason colonists came to America?
  6. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

We next did the reading and the writing portion to show adequate English comprehension. On an iPad mounted to the table, I read allowed. "When is Columbus Day?"

Next she asked me to write in print letters on the iPad with a special pen the following; "Columbus day is in the month of October". 

Simple right? Well...I started writing on the pad, C, O, L O, M, B.......I stopped and said to her I already messed it up. I spelled Columbus wrong! She looked at me and didn't say anything so I just finished writing the sentence. I told her I was done but that it is spelt wrong. She said no problem that it was clear that I understood what she wanted me to write and that she was able to understand the sentence so I passed the civic and English test portion. Feeling relieved and a little embarrassed we moved onto questions about my application. 

 

She had me confirm a few things in my application, dates travelled outside of US, my kids details, my wife's citizenship status, how many times married for both of us. We went through the standard questions on illegal activity confirming No to each and the commitments I would be making to the US as a citizen, confirming Yes to each. 

 

That was essentially it, she did some back office work on the computer for a minute or two and printed off my interview report, she said she was recommending me for approval and that another officer will be reviewing to confirm and do a quality check. She congratulated me and said I would possibly make the February Oath ceremony but certainly the March. She gave me instructions for the Oath ceremony, we talked about this for a moment and we were done. 

 

In all I was back in her office for maybe 15 minutes! I was delighted but also felt bad for some of the folks that I know had been waiting for a number of hours, I was done and out in less than 50 minutes total. 

 

So happy to have one more step to go, will update when I have a date of the oath ceremony. Sounds like they do once a month in the Houston area.

3/14/08 - Approved!!!! 44 Days

3/19/08 - NVC Received

3/21/08 - NVC Sent

3/25/08 - Consulate Received

3/31/08 - Packet 3 Received

4/01/08 - Packet 3 Sent

4/07/07 - Packet 4 Received

4/08/08 - Medical

4/28/08 - Interview!! 89 days Visa Received

5/14/08 - Entry to US, Woohoo

6/06/08 - Wedding!! Bigger Woohoo

6/22/08 - AOS and EAD Filled

6/27/08 - Noa both received

7/16/08 - Biometrics Appointment

7/22/08 - AOS transferred to California

8/22/08 - EAD Approved

8/28/08 - AOS I485 Card Production Ordered, WOOHOO

9/02/08 - EAD Received

Sept 08 AOS Recieved job got the week after!!

7/31/10 - Sent I-751 Removal of Conditions

Today we were notified of the interview appointment that would take place on Feb 28. Interestingly enough, the login online info still shows it might take until April 2019 as an estimate, so for our situation it was roughly a year for the notice in combination with the I-751. Of course, I don't know the status of the ROC for the I-751, so we're hoping that it's a combo interview without issues.

Interview complete and recommended for approval!! Great experience overall. Took 30 minutes total and most of it was spent reviewing the whole application again. Now waiting for the oat ceremony. Following questions were asked if anyone is preparing for theirs

 

(1) What do you promise when you become US citizen 

(2) who  was the first president 

(3) who is the governor of your state?

(4) Name 2 US national holidays

(5) Which movement ended racial segregation?

(6) where is statue of liberty?
