The status updates were also not in real time for me. When I got the email saying that my passport was done and being mailed to me and that it would take 2-3 days, I checked the mail tracking number they sent me and it said it was already in my mailbox. And lo and behold, when I got home there was a passport waiting in my mailbox for me. 

I got my passport and neutralization certified in mail today morning  finally my journey is over

Yes, so I had my interview at 8am today. Traffic was bad and ate up all my "wiggle room" and I got to the Tucson office at 7:55. It wasn't busy though and I was through security and checked in at the window by 8. (The guy at the window was the same poor guy who had to try to sort out why I got 2 green cards (and since then, a third!)) He took a photo and my 2 index finger fingerprints and then sent me to sit in the chairs and wait.

 

Sat around for about 15 minutes and then was brought back to a nice office by the immigration officer. The first thing she told me was that she'd actually been the person who responded to my Senatorial inquiry - so she was also the person who approved my I-751! Small world; small USCIS office, at least!

 

Ok, so she said she'd start with the test - get it out of the way. She apologized and told me that USCIS was trying to update their systems, so the reading and writing part of the test would be taken on an iPad that was in a stand on the desk. It's an awkward position to write in. But it was the same question: Read out loud: Who was George Washington? Print the answer on the screen: George Washington was the first president. They tell you the answer and you write it down.

 

Then the  civics questions:

1. What is the ocean on the east coast of America? - Atlantic

2. When do young men in America need to register for selective service? - 18-26

3. When was the constitution written? - 1787

4. What does "freedom of religion" mean? - The freedom to practice any religion or not to practice any religion at all.

5. How many Senators are there? - 100

6. Name one state that borders Canada? - I said Montana. Since I'm from Canada, I can also tell you: Alaska, Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

 

Then I had to swear to tell the truth on the next questions - all the ones about whether I qualified - am I applying through marriage (yes), has my husband been a citizen for at least 3 years (yes). are we still married (yes) do we owe any money to the IRS (no) and all the questions about whether I've ever been in trouble with the law or a bad person (no). 

 

Then I had to ok a change on the iPad - I've changed addresses since I applied, so I had to approve the new address, and then approve the spelling of my name and my birthdate and all the stuff that would be on the naturalization certificate. She gave me the form that said I was approved, and on the way out I got another leaflet about preparing for the oath ceremony. She said they'd mail me the notification of my ceremony.

 

In and out in probably about 15 minutes - and didn't ask to see any of my paperwork (except my green card), not even this year's taxes or the letter from the IRS saying that our payment plan from 2016 was all paid off.

 

Finally, on the topic of the snafu with my multiple green cards:

I'd also brought my 3rd green card with me, but she said if I gave it to her that it would automatically generate yet another one so I should just bring both of them to the oath ceremony.

He took a photo and my 2 index finger fingerprints and then sent me to sit in the chairs and wait.

 

Sat around for about 15 minutes and then was brought back to a nice office by the immigration officer. The first thing she told me was that she'd actually been the person who responded to my Senatorial inquiry - so she was also the person who approved my I-751! Small world; small USCIS office, at least!

 

Ok, so she said she'd start with the test - get it out of the way. She apologized and told me that USCIS was trying to update their systems, so the reading and writing part of the test would be taken on an iPad that was in a stand on the desk. It's an awkward position to write in. But it was the same question: Read out loud: Who was George Washington? Print the answer on the screen: George Washington was the first president. They tell you the answer and you write it down.

 

Then the  civics questions:

1. What is the ocean on the east coast of America? - Atlantic

2. When do young men in America need to register for selective service? - 18-26

3. When was the constitution written? - 1787

4. What does "freedom of religion" mean? - The freedom to practice any religion or not to practice any religion at all.

5. How many Senators are there? - 100

6. Name one state that borders Canada? - I said Montana. Since I'm from Canada, I can also tell you: Alaska, Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

 

Then I had to swear to tell the truth on the next questions - all the ones about whether I qualified - am I applying through marriage (yes), has my husband been a citizen for at least 3 years (yes). are we still married (yes) do we owe any money to the IRS (no) and all the questions about whether I've ever been in trouble with the law or a bad person (no). 

 

Then I had to ok a change on the iPad - I've changed addresses since I applied, so I had to approve the new address, and then approve the spelling of my name and my birthdate and all the stuff that would be on the naturalization certificate. She gave me the form that said I was approved, and on the way out I got another leaflet about preparing for the oath ceremony. She said they'd mail me the notification of my ceremony.

 

In and out in probably about 15 minutes - and didn't ask to see any of my paperwork (except my green card), not even this year's taxes or the letter from the IRS saying that our payment plan from 2016 was all paid off.

 

Finally, on the topic of the snafu with my multiple green cards:

I'd also brought my 3rd green card with me, but she said if I gave it to her that it would automatically generate yet another one so I should just bring both of them to the oath ceremony.

Congratulations!. I was looking through your timeline and I see you contacted your Senator for your ROC. How did you handle that? Mine has been pending since May 2017 even though I applied for N400 May 2018. I am thinking I should probably contact my Senator as well.

Thanks! Yes, I wrote letters to both senators and my congressperson as soon as my application showed up as "out of normal processing" - although I had not yet applied for citizenship at that time. One of the senators responded and inquired with USCIS and were told to wait 6 weeks. 6 weeks later with no response, I contacted the  senator's office again and they followed up with USCIS, at which point they approved me!! 

 

There's no harm in contacting your representatives - it's your right. And it might help (although I've heard that often if both ROC and N-400 are processing, they combine them and you get both interviews at the time of your N-400 interview, so they might not pull your I751 if you've already filed N-400) I highly recommend that you contact your reps and see if they will investigate!

Although unfortunately my I-751 is not showing out of “normal” processing time yet. I applied 19 months ago, but in USCIS website shows processing time in california is from 15,5 to 21,5months. Hopefully my interview for N400 will be schedule soon (I’m April 2018 filler) and they moviment my I-751. If not, I will send a letter to senador in the day after the I-751 completes 21,5 months awaiting. I will keep you posted. 😉

Ok Cool. My thought process was that we could contact our congressman early enough to see if that would actually help ensure that we get to do a combo interview worst case at our N400 interview instead of waiting longer after the N400 interview because it is starting to seem like it is not certain that LA does Combo Interviews. I do not think it would hurt anything. I think it's worth a try. Just my opinion though. Also, I realized that a few people from January 2018 and February 2018 in Los Angeles have not been called for their N400 Interviews yet and that makes me wonder quite a bit why that is.

I have a question. Hope someone can help. Did you guys send every bank statement? I uploaded for the last six months and then quarterly for the previous two years. However, whenever I sign out and then sign back into the application, bank statements get shuffled (like in random order mixing months from 2018/17/16). Had anyone have to deal with this?

I sent the most recent plus random for the previous year, for example: one for each year 2015, 2016,2017 and the most recent. Also uploaded other sources of proof like health insurance, car insurance etc. When you upload it gets all mixed, don't worry about it.

Thank you so much, now I feel better. I mean even if it is messed up, it is still there, but I didnt want to piss them off. But as you said, it is the way it is. I am sending last six months and then Jan, April, July and Oct for 2016/17.

Oh forgot to mention, I also merged some documents, such as health insurance claims, several claims together made one large document.
