The interview is very soon

Finally our interview date was given to us. We waited many months, but unfortunately my husband still can't speak English. He can say a few survival phrases, but he doesn't understand people when they try to talk to him...We speak Russian at home, so he never needs to use the English...only sometimes when he's outside or at the store etc.....and even that doesn't really do anything, because we live in a city where it's mostly Russian and people from the ex Soviet Union countries. .so everywhere he goes there is always people speaking Russian.

 

Anyways...

My questions are:

 

1. Do we need to bring someone to interpret for him?

 

2. Can I be his interpreter even though I'm his spouse?

 

3. What documents, and/or evidence should we bring to the interview?

 

4. Will I even be in the interview with him?

 

5) What kind of questions did they ask you? What should we expect?

 

I would like to here experiences from people who have done the interview already who didn't know English... and from even those who know English. It will really help us out to know ahead of time, because his interview is in a month.

Hi! Congratulations! 

On the checklist it says if you cannot speak English bring an verified interpreter. Yes you must come with him. 

& they can ask all types of questions & sometimes they hardly ask any. Go check the reviews of your uscis office & go from there. Bring all your documents if not already submitted, original certificates. 

Photos. They will probably ask him where he plan to work & how will he manage. I assume since your in a Russian community you will have many Russian speaking potential employers for your husband. They can’t harass anybody who is not confident in the language , he just got here. Many people live here for decades & still can’t speak good english . Don’t worry. Sometimes the officers have a cultural background too, in my area a lot of  Mexican officers.

Yeah, there are many, and they usually take advantage of him. I mean they have him working very hard and pay very little or all of a sudden have really strange or maybe illegal things they want him to do lol.

The consular officers who do the interviews speak Russian. The woman who conducted our interview was American but she spoke Russian very well. Your husband should not have any issues then.

I'm confused...why would they speak Russian? I forgot to clarify that this is an interview for his adjustment of status. He's already here in America, so the interview will be here in our city probably so that he can get a green card. 

 

Yeah in Russia when he had his K1 visa interview that of course was in the consulate and of course they spoke both English and Russian. Sorry if I wasn't clear about which interview.

If your talking about the same interview than wow...that's cool. I didn't know. Do they usually know everyoneso language? !

Oh I'm sorry, I thought you meant the interview at the consulate in Moscow? If you're talking about an interview here in the States, yeah that's probably not the same thing...
