Usually in this situation the American who wants to bring them over foots the bill

I have not been keeping count but sounds right.

Thanks. it pisses me off so I am going to look into it and put the bill for an annulment.

Money aside.... you're saying it takes a long time for an annulment? Does anyone know how long approximately?

Seems to be a few years. Not sure there is a specific time, no doubt varies.

Have you considered moving to the Philippines? If it’s all about just being together, surely the location is irrelevant?

Quotes you have been given look good, others have reported it going quicker if you grease the wheels (though some report this going wrong as well and losing time and money to it)

The rough timeline is about 2 years.

and yes I have thought about moving to the Philippines. I've been there twice in the past two years and I'm not going to say a lot of expats retire there ...but there are some.

The dollar goes a lot farther but corruption abounds everywhere. Some of it has been touched on in these posts. And I sensed a general  'treat the Filipinos like #######' from some of the American institutions over there,  the US Consulate included.

The people like that usually don't live with regular pinoys at all and usually live in gated communities. Where does your gf live? When I retire in 12 years then I will move down to Mindanao. I love it down there and I have never had a problem at all.

Thank you.

There's no way to know where or what her husband is doing now.

Are they suggesting a man, who has ill intentions for a Filipino woman, can marry her and leave her and she can, for all practical purposes, never get married again or leave the country to do so? That seems extremely unfair and immoral.

Yes, that is the way it works

Not a good choice.

If he had a relation with a married woman there is a good chance both parties will be charged with Adultery.

I have had one friend get adultery charge in Phiippines, He had to pay the husband to have charges dropped.

My Filipino girlfriend and I want to live together together forever in the USA.

She was married once before but her husband left her three days after they got married and he's probably in Canada. She hasn't seen or heard from him once since then. ( yeah, he's 1 of those )

The US Consulate wants a Cenomar wether she comes over as my fiance or for us to marry.

That's the catch-22.  How can she get a Cenomar showing she's single when her first marriage is registered. I understand divorces or annulments are almost impossible to get in the Philippines.

What are my options?

Thank you in advance.

Billy

Embassy requires proof of singleness from all, in all countries for the K-1 fiancee visa.  The Philippines just happens to keep better tabs on who is listed as married by using a central database.  And the Philippines only allows annulment (not sure what church keeps lobbying against any bill regarding divorce. ;) )

Divorce is not accepted in the Philippines (with one exception .. which doesn't apply here).   BUT that is not to say that your girlfriend couldn't find a country with a low residency requirement and complete a divorce there (not sure if this would be quicker or cheaper than the annulment, but for sure worth checking into).   The USA does accept divorces    And it doesn't matter if your girlfriends is still listed as married by the Philippines ... she WILL be free to marry in the USA!!

I know of a variety that had divorces from foreign countries and got their K-1 visas to the USA, while still being listed as married in the Philippines.   (option!!! )

Annulment costs P250,000 - P500,000 and can take 2 years or more ... ya don't get me started.
