Cenomar ? I think they mean ceno-moronic

My Filipino girlfriend and I want to live together together forever in the USA.

She was married once before but her husband left her three days after they got married and he's probably in Canada. She hasn't seen or heard from him once since then. ( yeah, he's 1 of those )

The US Consulate wants a Cenomar wether she comes over as my fiance or for us to marry.

That's the catch-22.  How can she get a Cenomar showing she's single when her first marriage is registered. I understand divorces or annulments are almost impossible to get in the Philippines.

What are my options?

The issue isn’t the CENOMAR, it’s not being free to marry. This is a requirement of a K-1 visa.

 

She needs to either get it annulled or get a divorce (i.e. outside the Philippines...although this is not a simple process either obviously).

She can’t because she isn’t single.  

 

Annulment is probably your only hope, expect it to be a long and costly process, more costly if they find out she has an American.

 

If there is a chance the husband became a Canadian citizen and then divorced her in Canada without her knowing then you can file for recognition of foreign divorce but again would take time and money.

There's no way to know where or what her husband is doing now.

Are they suggesting a man, who has ill intentions for a Filipino woman, can marry her and leave her and she can, for all practical purposes, never get married again or leave the country to do so? That seems extremely unfair and immoral.

Thank the Philippine govt for not passing divorce laws, in these situations most Filipinos just shack up in country with the new partner and not care about formalizing it only an issue if the new squeeze is also foreign

If you know which province he is from can you search divorce records there?

Boiler brain. that's brilliant  but read the other posts.  she's unable to get a divorce or annulment for economic reasons so she's held captive by a misogynistic culture and I am helpless to do anything about it.....maybe

Welcome to the Philippines!

 

She can get it annulled if the husband abandoned her as stated. It takes a while and isn’t cheap by any means, but is an option.

Depends on why exactly she is exiting, but shouldn’t be an issue unless she is emigrating.

 

Edit: misogynistic? Maybe...but not for this reason. It applies equally to men as it does to women.
