We were strongly advised to wait until she received her US citizenship, would be much quicker, did this in 2008, it was not until last year, 2017 we finally received a notice from the NVC that he would be called in for an interview, but made the bad mistake of getting married.  Guess you can't expect a young man to stay single all of his life.

Response from the NVC was to check with them in the next 10-12 years, if we are still alive by then.

Has your son been petitioned by USC or LPR?

He said USC

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I am a natural born USC, I could not petition for him. wife is naturalized,  said we received bad advice by waiting until she became a US citizen before applying was informed, would be faster this way.

Ironically when she petitioned for her son, little over nine years went by, for all we knew at the time, another nine years could have gone by.  And by some odd coincidence, a month after he was married, finally received a notice for is interview.  In terms of priority was next in line as a son, if he remained single, but now, way back in the line.

We know of a family here in our town from Venezuela, husband is here on a work visa, sent him job applications, but not our decision, but his and his wife's, and have a strong feeling, his wife doesn't want to leave her mother.

Chain immigration is on the news, perhaps my greatest comment, it doesn't happen instantly, can take years, or never at all.

From another aspect, just wasn't meant to be.

Curious as to how others are making out.

I feel like the same people who rail against chain immigration by citing what other countries do are also the first to sputter "but this is America! We are different!" when arguing why socialized benefits that work well in other countries would never work in the US. Surprise.

I feel bad for families split up in non-VWP countries. Usually they can't "just visit" and eventually age and ill health get to most of us, making "just visit"-ing over there also impossible.

So basically his petition was transfered from F1 to F3, what will add 5-6 additional years of waiting (if immigration reform will not hit it). I am not sure why NVC tells you, that it will take 10-12 years if the petition has not been voided?
