My wife is currently awaiting interview with NVC. I am filing my tax return jointly with my wife and I don't know what to do about her nothing having a SSN or ITIM number. What should i do?

you can contact a CAA in your area, but you will need to have her original passport or supporting documents, and then you need to have a w7 with a wet signature. I had my husband send them from Egypt so that I can file our taxes together.

you can only do it by mail, but if you just sent it to the IRS you MUST send either the original passport for her, or a certified copy that was provided by the issuing agent. so whatever government or country she is in, she needs to get you an offical certified copy and then you would leave the SSN field for her blank and mail the papers to Texas.

go onto https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf download the W7, have her fill it out or you fill it for her, send it to her via email for her to print out and sign, and then send it to you in the mail with her certified copy of her passport.

once you get that you can send that in with the taxes you prepare it takes 10-12 weeks

It's not very reasonable for them to request a the original passport by mail

I will warn you that sending those papers via MAIL are very expensive, my husband had a friend coming into the USA so he sent the papers with his friend

CAA is a certified authorized agent, someone who is granted powers by the irs to see orig documents, and mark the form they have seen the original, many of them want money.

While you are in Jordan, go to the office that approves the passports and get a certified paper copy of your wifes passport, and when you return you can send down the certified copy with our IRS tax return all down to the address for the W7 form.

if your spouse out of the country has no income you are able to claim the exemption for them on the tax return adjusting about another 1500 in refund depending on the amount you made.

if you have no kids filing married not together, your tax exemption is only 6500 but married filing joint is 12,000
