If my husband and I do not have any joint bank account, or any mortgage with my name on it, will the person who will conduct the AOS interview say something  or possibly deny us? My husband and I have been married for 4 years and 5 months with two kids together, lived together ever since. The only problem is we don't have any joint bank account ( yet ) or any mortgage with my name on it ( my husband bought our house and lot before we even met ). Will this raise a red flag on the interview? If it doesn't, what proofs can we bring on the interview? Are photos together and mails with our name and address, our kid's birth cert and pics will be enough? Oh, and we don't have bills as well since we are using solar power. Thank you!

We don't have any of those. So, are we in danger?

Do you have ANYTHING which indicates you both live at the same address?  I would also get some notorized statements from people who can testify that you are married and together.

Not necessarily in "danger"; but if one of you has a savings account, why not just add the other to it?

We have separate checking accounts but join savings, that was our banking info we gave for his AOS paperwork packet.

Only other thing we showed was both names on our apartment lease.

Yes, we have mails on both our names indicating our address. I just remember, he put me on an insurance from his bank stating I will receive something just in case something happens to him. Can we add that to the list?

I would say yes because as of right now you really have nothing to verify that you two are actually a couple at all besides the marriage license. There is nothing actual on paper other than that.

Absolutely, those are pieces of evidence.

Someone from the bank told us that if I put my name on my husband's savings account or start a joint savings account that my credit will be affected as welk since he has a bad credit. Is this even correct?

Didn't affect ours at all as I had just rebuilt my credit, and his was pretty bad... I never noticed any change honestly.

So, what about us living together for almost 5 years and having two kids? We can prove that we are living together. That's not gonna help at all?

No single piece of evidence is required. Every case is unique and they look at the totality of circumstances and evidence. You can’t provide something you do not have, but you can provide other evidences of what you do have.

At face value only, and purely my opinion, it does seem odd that you have been married for so long and do not have some of the common items show commingling of finances. Living together is great, but some pieces of mail alone may still face scrutiny. This is a circumstance where I would suggest throwing more evidence at them ahead of time. It’s not quite “kitchen sink” time, but show more evidence of actually living together and going places together and doing things together.

In the vast majority of cases, credit is unaffected by checking or savings accounts. There are a very small number of banks that do a hard credit check still due to things like bad checks or overdraft protection, though.

Thank you for that information. We will inquire again as that lady in the bank probably didn't know what she was talking about.

That just proves that you two had sex at least twice. Pasenya na, I know I am coming across as mean but I am trying to play the devil's advocate for you right now. You need something on paper to show that you two are a couple and living together. W

When my asawa and I first got married I added her to the rental contract, my car/health insurance, bank accounts, gas/electric bills to show that we are together. You need to start doing the same thing as well. My wife does not have any credit at all and she is still on my credit cards, and it hasn't affected them or my score at all.

I know. That's why I thought of asking here. My husband was just recently approved for SSDI and the first few years of our marriage was a little tight when it comes to money and so he just recently opened a bank account and I was also just recently approved for EAD and I just got my social security number a month ago so I couldn't really do anything or open a bank account or him putting me on joint account as they always ask for proof of legal residency or SSN in the first few years of our marriage. However, we do travel together with our kids and we have a lot of photos showing this. I take it we can add those to the list of proofs to bring?
