Hi everyone! I am new here. I am a permanent resident here in the US and my husband is a US citizen. I am currently helping my dad with his DS-160 for a B2 visa. He lives in the Philippines. He is currently not employed but we have a farm and thats what he's been busy with - farming. Prior to that, he was working as a taxi driver. He owns a house, a farm and a vehicle but not a bank account. He's been out of the country before. He went to Dubai, UAE to visit my other sister and was granted 3-month tourist visa but he only stayed 2.5 months. He only has my other 2 younger sisters (plus my mom) living with him, one is in college and graduating in June and one is still in highschool.

Another thing is, I set him an appointment for tourist visa back in 2013 to attend my wedding. Unfortunately, the appointment I set was too closed to my wedding date (I couldnt get an earlier appt and the date i scheduled was not gonna work), so we decided to not pursue it. BUT, I forgot to cancel the appointment. I believe that is considered abandonement.

My questions are:

1. With the previous employment as a taxi driver, would that cause a red flag? I dont want CO to think he is coming to drive a taxi here.

2. Does his travel history and my sister graduating raise his chance of getting a visa? I already know the employment will probably not gonna be enough.

3. And where do I put the one where he had a scheduled appointment before but abandoned? Will that be under refusal of visa? I mean he didnt technically got refused of visa.

4. Really, what are his chances of getting approved overall?

P.S. My dad will be visiting us for 2 months only and will be back before my sister's graduation. I work as a nurse and my husband has an online business. We will be paying for all his expenses.

Hi,

His previous employment is not caused a red flag or does everything else. Its likely because you are GC holder and so his chance of getting B2 visa is rare.  He has to prove to CO that he has tight to his country and wont stay after in the US. For you being GC holder, CO will assume you will sponsor for him to stay in the US and that's the risk.

1. No

2. Travel history may help. Your sister will not have any impact on his chances.

3. It is likely in the system. They will know. He can explain the situation if asked about it.

4. No one really knows. Philippines have a high denial rate for tourist visas, especially if the applicant has relatives who are US citizens. However, the elderly usually come out better than young Filipinos looking to a tourist visa.

All he can do is try.

That's all the ties he has in the Philippines. I dont know how else he can prove to the CO he is going back to his country.

Another question though, on the DS 160, the education part, my dad went to A LOT of schools. He has a degree in accounting and some years in engineering, and so many others. I guess he couldnt decide what he wanted to do when he was younger. LOL. Do I have to put all the schools he went to?

Why is he not applying? Why are you filling in the forms?
