Manila to Denver via Guam and Honolulu

Can some one that has flown from manila via Guam and Honolulu to another city in the USA inform me what it is like .Is it easy  to clear immigrations and customs? is that in Guam that you have to Clear immigrations and customs? Do you have to recheck luggage?

Is it  a fairly easy process?

I bought tickets to manila from Denver  for  April  for me  my wife and baby daughter. We will have the same departing flight. but due to work I will have to come back sooner.I

will come back to  Denver with one stop in Tokyo. Which is the flight I prefer. However around the time my  wife and daughter  need  to return there was no available flights thru Tokyo. when I book our tickets. So I book her return  ticket to Denver  thru Guam and Honolulu. We will be going to Manila thru Guam and Honolulu also. There is a 23 hour layover in Honolulu and I thought my wife might enjoy visiting Hawaii for a day. She will be a little familiar with the airport in  Guam and Hawaii. I am  still a little worry if she will have enough time as she will have our 23 month old daughter with her.  Is 2 hours layover in Guam and Honolulu  enough time? Also she will have her Philippines passport, green card, and one year  extension letter for ROC. Will she have any problem with that?

Has anyone purchase premier  access with united ? Was it worth paying the extra money ?

For those that have flown with young children I will appreciate your advice. Our daughter will be sitting on our laps, will a bassinet seat be helpful? if we are able to get one.   Any suggestions on what to bring for her on the plane.  I have a kiddie fire tablet that I am loading up with her favorite you tube videos for kids, and we are bringing some of her favorite toys and her favorite blanket. we will also make sure to bring  plenty of  water, juice and snacks for her  Any other suggestion ?

 Thank you

What to expect if traveling through Guam and then onto Hawaii.

When you arrived in Guam, look for the immigration counters (print off a map [see below] and look for the red immigration boxes at the ground level so you are familiar with their location) before heading to your connecting gate/flight. If your window to board your next flight is short be sure to walk briskly to immigration. Many travelers from Manila will  have only a window of  about an hour and 20 minutes before their next flight. Once you arrive, the immigration officer will ask for your visa packet and your passport. They may ask you to go to another document examination room. In this room, the agent will photocopy your passport and enter some additional information in their computer to generate your I-94. Hold onto the I-94 as you will need this for additional processing of documents once you arrive in the US. After a few minutes you will be called to come forward and get your I-94 and passport. They will emphasized that you will need to get married within 90 days or else you will need to return back to the Philippines.

After leaving immigration be sure to find your gate information and pass through security on your way. Everyone must undergo security to reboard. Check your ticket for your flight to Hawaii as it may contain the phrase "SSSS" (Secondary Security Screening Selection), which requires the TSA agent to check carry-on bags and an additional inspection of you.

When you arrive in Hawaii check the gate monitors to see which gate you will be departing from as it is customary to hop on the shuttle bus going to other terminals for your domestic flight.  Be sure you retrieve your luggage to take with you on the bus and recheck them in again with the airlines that you will be traveling to the mainland US on. You must clear Customs in Hawaii before moving on to your next destination.

Flight times: Manila to Guam is nearly 4-hour trip, then Guam to Hawaii is a 7-hour trip, Hawaii to east coast is a 9.5 hour trip, time to Chicago is 8.5 hours and the west coast is about 5.5 hours.

My wife needs to go thru immigration in Guam?

 - you clear through immigration in Guam and customs in Honolulu - the baggage needs to be re-checked.  It has been a few years since I flew through Honolulu but the re-check area was to the left outside customs.  Your asawa can ask for guidance .

As for immigration, it might take a little longer, some agents may want to verify the ROC letter.  Beyond that all should be fine.

I live in Honolulu and flew United through Guam on my last trip. The whole process was very easy. Since you will continue on from Hawaii I believe you will need to get your bags and recheck. The HNL airport layout is pretty crappy but you will be fine.

Thanks for all the answers. My wife still thinks it will be to hard for her at the airport in Guam and Honolulu since it will be just her and our 23 month old daughter. I tried to change her flight to return from manila to Denver via Tokyo so she will be able to do everything here in Denver but united wanted to much money to change  the flight.

You collect your bags when you go through customs, whatever airport that is.  Typically, right past the customs station is a drop zone for the airlines .  If you walk outside the arrival doors with your bags then you will need to recheck

YMMV

Guam will be a breeze.   Honolulu won't be a big issue either... re-checking the bags isn't a major deal, like said the last time we cleared through Honolulu the re-checking area was to the left after exiting customs, and probably still is as there is a corridor with elevators if you go to the right through the doors.

Correct.

But if you don't pick them up, They will just send them to your final destination. It was a little secret I found out when one time I forgot to grab them when entering the USA.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

That is a good ideal to simply forget the luggage  but if my wife bring stuff back  and has to declare the items then she will have to get her luggage  for customs inspection
