Hi you guys!

I hope you can give me your two-cents about this: I didn't apply for EAD in order to save some money and obviously at the time I was hoping that my GC would be approved quickly. At this point, I have no idea what's going on with my case, and I am trying to decide whether or not to apply for EAD before the fees go up. I don't want to be stuck if my case takes forever to approve.

So, what I'm thinking is that I will make an infopass appointment in the next couple of weeks to see if they can give me any information on my status (i.e. stuck in namecheck or not) so that I can make a decision about applying for EAD. Do you think I should just try an Infopass, or will they just laugh me out of the office?

Let me know what you think!

Just downright scary...

Their computer system must be a byzantine nightmare of poorly strung together databases. In a world where you leave electronic trails everywhere, how is this even possible?

It must have been the one analyst that still prefers using his IBM selectric and paper.

I would say go for an infopass appointment...however, I'm not sure if they would tell you more than what you see online...also I don't know if they will give you an update on your name check status... mysticbluerose went for an infopass appointment to ask about her name check status but as far as I know she didn't get a clear answer...maybe she can give you some more info on this issue when she reads your question...

(For what my advice is worth!)... I don't think it can hurt just to go to an Infopass and ASK - they were very nice at mine when I went to ask about changing the biometrics location! And... as for whether to apply for EAD or not, I reckon that if nothing else, it would be typical that the very day the cheque clears for the EAD, the AOS would be approved - y'know, sod's law and all that! (Plus you would then have a lovely green card to console you over the wasted EAD fee!)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

My two cents: I'd go for the infopass as well...it'll probably just make you feel proactive if nothing else and from various posts on infopass appts., some seem to be horrendous but others really helpful. Even if it turns out to be one that isn't very useful, at the most you will just feel anger for a week or so, but it won't hurt your case. And if it's helpful, you'll have a clearer idea whether you should spend the extra bucks for the EAD or not.

As for being transfered to CSC, it appears that some people luck out and get approvals quickly and others are stuck in a sort of limbo - they will get processed but not as rapidly as expected (and so, the need for an EAD after all).

Good luck if you do go for an infopass appt and keep us posted on what they say!

Cheers, Cardamom
