Sorry to hear your husband didn't pass. You would think they would have various translators for new immigrants and such.

I went this morning for my license. We showed up about fifteen minutes before they opened, so we were first to be seen which was a lot nicer than sitting forever for a number to be called. It was rather painless and took about a half an hour for her to get all of my paperwork together. She gave me a paper permit (that expires in a month) to use until my card comes in the mail. I'll let you all know when it expires when I get it.

Hey question for you- did you have to take a written or in-car test? As a Canadian, I have to take both in Ohio. It sucks!!

Oh my gosh you're so lucky...maybe it's because they have so many "snowbirds" in Florida from Canada. Regardless, I am so ticked I have to go through so much just to get a dang license. I am taking my time with it...studying a 100-page book isn't fun. Plus, I am nervous about the road test!

I completely understand and was very happy that I didn't have to take any tests. I had enough testing done with the Ontario Graduating Licensing program. I was surprised that she gave me back my Ontario driver's license. I'm kinda glad cause whenever I'm able to go to Canada, hopefully I can renew it (cause it expires in July 2007) and have it just in case I ever need it in the future.

Nice job with keeping everything updated, Arazia!

I booked an infopass appointment for tomorrow to see if I can get them to do my biometrics here in Cincinnati instead of in Columbus... failing that, I'll see if there's any chance I can get it done a week on Saturday when I'll be in Columbus and the office is (according to the USCIS site) open. Maybe if I just take the appointment letter and all the requested ID, they'll let me in. But can't hurt (I hope) to have an infopass and see what they say.

I scheduled an appt for my husband so he didn't have to wait. I was told I could make the appt for the driving test only after an hour and a half.

My husband didn't pass . He doesn't know English so they allowed a translator (our neighbor - I can't bc I'm his wife).

He passed the road signs but not the rules. I can't imagine taking an oral DL test - the written is bad enough. Also, my husband doesn't think that the translator was that efficient.

So....he's going to take it in Spanish (written). He's a bit nervous though because he speaks Portuguuese. He has to learn the language at the same time that he learns the test...

But he is very serious about passing the test - at least he only has to do half of it since he passed the road signs part. When he passes I'll let everyone know when it expires.

Thanks Bora, and all the best. It is a very traumatic experience, as my wife tells me, and she speaks English.

OMG I wonder how my babe is gonna do on the DL test. He has the driven down I'm sure its the written test. Here you are allowed to fail 5 but still. He reads English well but sometimes doesn't understand it if you know what I mean. I wonder if he can take the test in Spanish here uhmmmmmm

My baby got his DL today!!!

Since he had passed the 'signs' part yesterday he only needed to redo the 'rules' part.

He took that part of the test on the computer - in Spanish. (So he got his permit).

They allow you to take the road test right away.

So, he passed that part no problem - in English (I'm so proud).

His DL is valid for one year.

When he recevies his GC he can have the DL renewed for a longer time.

This is good news.

There were no problems w/ his NOA for AOS.

If you are not a citizen in FL, the DMV mails you your DL - which arrives in up to 30 days. So, my hubby has a paper which says he has his DL and is valid for those 30 days while he is waiting for his DL ID to come in the mail.

BTW, no touches since 5/31

Congrats to your husband, Bora Bora! I guess that means mine will expire in one year as well.
