You might find creme fraiche  if you have a specialty deli that's usually where you will find the mascarpone cheese.

Probably have to drive to a bigger city with a Whole foods to get stuff like that, won't find it in this area. It actually tastes good with heavy cream, or I'm just used to it.

Heavy cream is good. I use it too. 

I can't find creme faiche here either, but I can find some stuff they so call try to pass off as it.

I am ok with the dense ones.  But honestly, there is nothing quite like a flaky buttermilk biscuit fresh out the oven with butter and honey. Mmmmmm

 

A trick I have learned is freezing my butter the night before, then shredding it like a carrot on a steel grater.  Actually, if I could buy butter like “Dip-n-Dots”, that would be better I think. But once you have the butter shredded, add it to your flour mix, add the cold buttermilk (some say to put the flour in the freezer for an hour beforehand, but I never remember this), then just BARELY work the dough til it is mixed with a fork.  The key is to minimize kneading, and try to not touch it with your warm hands.  Cut, then cook some for now, freeze the rest for later.  My wife says these are the best she has ever had.  They are heavier than a can from the store, and not as flaky, but still have a more-flaky texture to them than traditional buttermilk biscuits.

 

Me thinks I shall make some for breakfast tomorrow.  And need to put the flour int eh freezer tonight!

Made a great banana bread with black and red currant, walnuts, pine nuts and chocolate today.  The wife is returning after visiting her mother for the past three weeks and she absolutely loves my banana bread.

I make a pretty simple sour cream banana bread without all the things you mentioned.  Love it.  Banana bread is more like manna bread!  But your “extras” in there sound great.

 

Made some very soft and fluffy sweet potato rolls today.  Mmmmm....

Making Oreo pie for dessert at a friend’s house tomorrow.  As well as more of the sweet potato rolls, because his wife really wants more.

 

 

1 bag Oreos, crushed 
8oz cream cheese, softened 
1/4 cup butter 
1 cup powdered sugar 
3 cups milk 
2 sm boxes instant vanilla pudding 
1/2 tsp vanilla 
12 oz Cool Whip, thawed 

 

Cream together cream cheese, butter & powered sugar & vanilla. In separate bowl mix milk & pudding chill until set. Fold in cool whip after pudding has set. Add cream cheese mixture, layer with Oreos... Chill until ready to serve.
