foreign equivalent of a HS diploma

Hello all! My husband has his K-3 interview next week. We're wondering if his diploma from la preparatoria, or Preparatory school, will serve as the equivalent of a High School diploma here in the US? He also has studied at the University, but he doesn't yet have his bachillerato, or Bachelor's degree. I'm assuming we have to get his diploma notarized and/or apostillated. Does anyone have any information for us? Thanks!

My husband did not have to provide any proof of his academic qualifications at the interview at all. They didn't even ask. Why do you think you'll need this?

I don't think we'll need it for the interview. I'm thinking ahead about applying for jobs once his EAD is approved.

Well, I've never once been asked for proof I went to high school.

Neither has my husband (from Peru). For most jobs, giving the name of the high school and year of graduation is enough for them.

My husband is the permanent resident and one of the jobs he applied for requested his high school diploma, so when we showed them his bachelor's degree they told us it was not enough proof that he actually graduated from high school. According to this human resources office we need to get a certified copy of his diploma in his native language and have it translated to english and verified by a high school &/or college that it is equivalent to US standards. Well it would cost alot of money to do that(contact his hs in his country get a copy of his hs diploma, have it translated and get permission to send it to US all the while hoping it wont get lost in the mail) so we are looking into him getting his GED from the US that way they cant dispute it. Even our marriage certificate states that he has a bachelor degree and the major which is certified by the church, egyptian embassy and the US embassy since u have to swear that all the imformation is factual and sign in front of them on the dotted line.

Have your husband's foreign education evaluated. I have mine (high school diploma plus transcript for my B.S. as credentials and professional license with the application form and money order sent off to AACRAO).

It just proves that you don't need any brains or common sense to work in HR... I can't believe I wanted to be an HR specialist myself. If one has a University degree, it's kind of obvious that he has a high school diploma too.

Wellllllllllllllllll...not quite. Some universities do admit students who don't have high school diplomas, though it's sort of unusual.

I work as a GED examiner and there have been many people from countless countries who had to get their GEDs. Many of these people had college and or doctorate (sp?) degrees from their home countries. The cool thing about Arizona is the test is offered in Spanish and French.

Just another proof that Americans treat everybody else as idiots............................. Sad.............................. But my boss didn't want to see my high school diploma...........
