Hi all,

We're thrilled we finally got our NOA2 and are moving forward!

So a question about the GDR: anyone on here grow up in the GDR and complete immigration? Wondering if that came up in the interview.

Thanks!

Made in GDR? Na dann... :D

I can only say that it my opinion it’s a non-issue and, if I understand your question properly, it only matters that you have a Bundesdeutschen passport now.

In fact, if I remember right, the GDR citizens even had a special status, at least in the fact the Germany was considered (by the West) to be two states, one nation.

Either way, fascinating question...hope that helped. :)

Not an issue. I am from the former GDR and was never asked about it. To be honest, I stated in all forms that I was born in Germany (it only later crossed my mind that technically I was born in the GDR). If you get yourself a few copies of international birth certificates (which I would recommend, since you will need them at various stages of the process), they also state "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" as your birth place.
