I got my RFIE update on the case tracker after I received my biometrics notice, but before I go for my appointment. I still haven't received the hard copy of rfie so I'm nervous too.

Mine hasn't been updated since they said they received it on the 21st. My biometrics appointment is on the 15th so I'm wondering if they'll send me something after that. Also deciding if i want to try an early walk in this week.

I got online status change before the scheduled appointment date (but I walked in a week earlier), and received mail three days after scheduled appt date. But there are several guys got RFIE after good three/four months so I'd say it's better we got it early;)

In that case a co-sponsor is best way

Otherwise you could use assets (12 months statements for amount at least three times more than the gap) as proof, if I remember it right.

I would look for a joint sponsor to be safe.

I would do 2017 taxes plus a joint sponsor. I'd probably go all out.

It depends on what forms are used to file income tax returns; below i have pasted an excerpt from the From I-864 Filing instruction sheet

Item Numbers 18.a. - 20. Federal Income Tax Return Information

For purposes of this affidavit, the line for Total Income on IRS Forms 1040 and 1040A will be considered when

determining income. For persons filing IRS Form 1040 EZ, the line for adjusted gross income will be considered.

I guess the income of the most recent year is the most relevant; so If you have your 2017 W2 and Tax return ready, do a self evaluation if they meet the criteria but since your spouses income is a combination of employment and self employment i can imagine it may become difficult to prove so or to the satisfaction of USCIS at least. So the best and safest course of action would be to get a co-sponsor, and once you find a co-sponsor make sure of his/her circumstances if they are married and the size of their household in their tax returns (if they have any dependents). In case they are married and file taxes jointly you may want to fill out form I-864A for co-sponsors spouse
