W2 for interview

I have my interview coming up in a couple of weeks and I've read the Montreal reviews religiously. The information is invaluable.

My spouse moved to the US last year and has never had a W2. He is up to date on his US tax returns and we received 3 years of tax transcripts from the IRS.

I noticed several people in Montreal have gotten the dreaded 221 (AP) for not bringing a copy of the W2 (despite bringing tax transcripts). Since my spouse has never had a W2 will this be an issue? I included a copy of his Canadian T5 during the NVC stage. I may be overthinking this but does he need to provide proof of employment in Canada for the previous tax year?

1-2 weeks before your interview, they will email you a list of documents that you need to bring to your interview. For mine, it spelled out the specific tax/financial documents I had uploaded to NVC: "Original I-864EZ Form, 2016 W2 Form and 2016 Tax Return Transcript or 2016 1040 Form from your Petitioner."

I wouldn't expect that they'd ask you to bring something you hadn't uploaded. If they do, I would recommend replying directly to the email they send you. The email they sent me listing the documents had a significant typo. I replied to the email immediately asking for clarification, and they replied the same day.

Like I said, I'd be surprised if you were asked to bring a W2 if you have never provided one. Just read the email carefully when you get it and go from there.

Oops I meant to say I included my spouse's T1 not T5. I have downloaded his previous T4 for 2016. I hope not having any previous W2's will be an issue.

Hi Acidrain,

My wife is in Canada for the last 4 years and do not W2 too.  We uploaded her T4 for 2016.  Do the interviewer asked for W2?

We were not asked for a W2 but we did provide a confirmation of employment letter and pay stubs to show my spouse was able to financially sponsor me.

I did not receive a P4 package. I think those were received in the past for IR1/CR1 applications. I was confused myself as it is still listed under our timeline and referenced in old posts.

I completed the NVC stage and submitted all of our documents electronically. Once you are documentarily qualified you move on to the interview stage (wait for your interview date from NVC). Once you get that they send you a link to follow instructions (registering your appointment/courier service, completing your medical, what to bring to your interview, etc.). Hope that helps :)
