As mags said, we have white gold.

As for the question in the poll: Is there another? Of course there is... Rose Gold (also known as pink gold or red gold). It's an alloy of gold and copper. I kinda like rose gold, just because it's different. I used to like platinum. Now it seems to be a status symbol more than anything. My current favourite is titanium. It's light and it takes a lot to scratch it. I like titanium's colour too.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Don't forget white gold is mostly yellow gold mixed with white metals (often silver) and then coated with rhodium to make it shiny. The rhodium will eventually wear off leaving it either yellow or very dull, and then it requires another coating.

We have platinum rings that are square. Most people comment on the squareness which is what I love about them. I probably wouldn't have picked platinum though as it's so heavy, but it only came in that way. The result is I hardly ever wear my ring as it gets in the way for work. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I wore it.

I got my fiancee a white gold engagement ring (because she likes white metal!) and she loves it. We didn't opt for the traditional diamond though, as she dislikes diamonds (she claims they are "cold" and "lifeless" if that makes any sense...) so we went with a stone she really likes, a Ceylon sapphire, accented with two smaller sapphires to either side.

Looking back though, maybe I should've gotten her platinum. Oh well. I didn't. I don't think she cares though. To her, it's more important what the ring symbolizes than anything else.

Actually my SO wants tungsten carbide also ;-) I'm fine with it. I don't have an engagement ring (I guess that's not a common thing in Germany?) but if I did I would not want diamond. I don't care for them at all. I'd prefer a sapphire or even peridot, though a lot of people tell me that's tacky. Course, they don't have to wear it!

I wanted to give him a ring to have while we are separated and waiting for the fiance visa. I bought sterling silver and had it engraved. We agreed that he didn't want to wear anything terribly expensive in Nigeria while he waits for the visa.

That is very true about white gold changing colors. We chose white gold because of the price (all we could afford  ) and the white gold has changed color. When we were back in Italy last summer we went to the jeweler and he explained this to us. He said we could have it redipped, but we ended up just getting them buffed and shined and they are beautiful!! It is a color between white and yellow. I love them. I do have a sentimental attachment to them, though, too. We didn't pick platinum because of the price and also because when it scratches it ends up looking like crumpled aluminum foil JMHO.

They're very nice! Colored stones and heirlooms are great for wedding jewelry.

abdounjen, I really like your ring. Is that your engagement ring, or are you trying on your wedding band early? ;) It's very striking.

thanks! :) i know... my mom just saw it for the first time and asked me COUNTLESS times in the past two weeks if we were really married, not engaged. i just really dislike the look of small solitaire rings so i chose this. i guess we'll do it backwards. if we get to the point where we have the house/vacation account/etc and have left over money, THEN he can get me my 2 carat solitaire to go with this. ;) but honestly i don't really care about jewelry. i still would rather spend the money on trips around the world. just my priority!
