Initially when I read the thread title (and article title) I thought it was suggesting they wouldn't be graduating immigrants unless they became citizens (which sounded crazy). Article worded the title a little poorly IMO.

Requiring high school students to have a basic knowledge of our government system is very important. It's been awhile now but isn't US History a required course in high school? I would imagine it would be included and taught in that course. Or a civics course, though I realize those aren't required.

All in all though I think it's a great idea. It wouldn't hopefully improve the younger population's involvement in politics, and help make them at least slightly informed when they are voting.

Amazing how many regular posters here are unfamiliar with the 2nd.

I haven't seen a single person on these forums that doesn't know what the 2nd amendment is.

I am in favor of this. It doesn't make sense to have immigrants learn this stuff when native citizens don't know it. It is disturbing seeing the lack of basic understanding of how our government is supposed to work among the population. No one should be graduating high school if they don't know this stuff.

Absolutely. That is a far more reasonable statement.

Saying people don't know the 2nd amendment is just playing politics. We all know it, and most probably know the exact language (especially if you are just looking at members on this forum). We just disagree on interpretation and what it does and doesn't allow.

Like the 14th.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Had to look up the 3rd, haven’t read that one in a while.  But the 14th and the 2nd are no mystery to me.  The 18th just needs to go away.  It serves no purpose.

But then the poor 21st would be a rather "odd man out" ;)
