hi fellow feb filers!

We just have a question, for us women who opt to changed their family name to married name. do we have to change our passports now?

I applied for green card, travel permit and Ead under my married name.

and went to SS today to have my SSN change to my married name, however it was refused as per the staff i need my passport to be changed in my married name.

Hi! similar thing happened to me, she didn't specify passport, but she said I have to have a document on my married name, like my work permit card, or green card etc. So I will wait until I have my work permit in hands to go chamge it at the SS office.

You do not have to change your passport right away if you dont want to, you just have to travel with your passport+copy of marriage certificate always. And if you're entering in the states, obviously you will need your advance parole or gc.

That's what I am going to do because i have a new passport that expires only in 2026. I have seen tons of people doing that and having no problem at all.

ps: just remember that everytime you buy a flight ticket, you HAVE to always use the name that shows in your passport

Hi,

Our application arrived to USCIS and was signed for on 02.08, but our check still has not been cashed. With the K1 it was almost within the first 48 hours that the check got cashed, so we are starting to worry that there is something wrong. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Thank you and good luck to everyone!

From what I heard is that AOS application after it is delivered is going straight to the desk of the uscis worker, who will check your case. In case of K1 they never check it before sending NoA1, except for they only check the amount on check and if the Forms are correct (up to date and signed), but in case of AOS they look more carefully at each document and if there is need sending RFE, that is why usually it takes longer to get NOA in AOS process. Give them Max 30 days, if You wouldnt receive No text/email/letter from them than contact them.

Thank you. That was really helpful. I do have one other question. The only thing I can see us getting an RFE for is on the affidavit of support. If we did receive an RFE for that, would that then also slow down the EAD process? Or just the AOS

Hard to say... it may but it may not. RFE's are send pretty quick in AOS process, than you just wait for the ead, but they can be also send at any level of the process. If it is the only thing the uscis worker is waiting on to finish your case than Yes, but if he didnt go throw all the paperwork yet than it wont matter really. It really does depend on the person that is working on your case, I think.

Biometrics appointment letter received today for March 6th in Elizabeth NJ.

May end up doing a walk in earlier on the 28th of this month.

Seems to be moving rather quickly.
