Hope someone can help.  My wife and I have been in limbo since 3/7/17 that is the date USCIS accepted her N400 application, and was updated on 4/17/17 for In Line for Interview.  Almost 11 months now.   Anyways, we did our taxes today, and found out we will owe the IRS $1587.  We plan on filing the form to get the Payment plan from them.

Now I hope it is nothing to be concerned about, but will this reflect on my wife once she is called in for the interview.  Everyone at sometime will owe taxes, we just didnt have enough tax taken out during 2017.  We will be setting up a payment plan with the IRS, so I am hoping this will not be a negative towards her interview .

I dont even know if she should bring this to the officer's attention once she is in there for the interview.  Any advice or knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you VisaJourney followers.

Of course we have always filed Joint returns.

Owing back taxes can become an issue during the interview ...but usually only when there's no payment plan or no proof of payment plan set up by the applicant to the IRS.

In case it comes up during the interview, just make sure your wife carries with her proof of payments/proof of payment plan to show the interviewing officer.

W-2s have been out at least for the past 10 days and so were 1099 forms. Nothing stopping one to file before April 17 deadline and having payment plan set up with IRS so this issue can be addressed at interview.

well I think the officer will be asking just for taxes of 2016 .because the officer will figure that some people do not do their taxes on January . I would not mention  anything about 2017 taxes

The last day to file taxes is in April ...Unless by some slim  chance they get their interview scheduled before then, they will have been expected to have filed their 2017 taxes.

Pay your taxes now.  Why don't you just pay in full if you're worried about it being a problem?

Because to us $1587 is a lot of money to pay back all at one time that is why we have to set up a payment plan, that amount for you might not be a problem but for us it is

How much is US citizenship worth to you?  If more than $1587, you know what to do.

Good Afternoon! Please let me know if you had any news regarding this topic? We have similar situation with the IRS Payment plan and 2017 taxes.

I had my Interview yesterday and the officer became very weird, almost angry when I mentioned that we owe taxes but paying them with the plan.

I had the IRS letter with me where it all was explained....she took the letter but she said it is not enough and they need actual receipts that we're paying.

Now I'm really frustrated. She said to expect RFE in the mail... After more than a year of wait for an interview it's kind of heart breaking.

I had every single paper with me but not the IRS receipts from our bank account:(
