Cr1 income requirements

Hi all!

 

I am a US Citizen and applied for my spouse through CR-1 visa. I just wanted to make sure that I understand the income requirements correctly. For me to sponsor my spouse, my income should be at least $20,300. Is this correct?

currently yes, but it will depend on what stage you are in now

 

because between March and April, the poverty guidelines changes, the new poverty guidelines will come up, so far, each year has been more, not less for the minimum annual income

 

so if the new poverty guidelines is out, you will need to make more than that

Agree with the above comment but you also need to take into account who else lives with you that depends on you financially, if so. If not then you're good

By approximately how much does the poverty level rise, do you have any idea?

It usually rises only a few hundred dollars of annual income each year.  There have been a couple recent years where it didn't change at all.  However, just meeting the minimum is no assurance as to the judgment call the Consular officer will make.  Why are you concerned about the exact number?

I am just trying to see if I need to add a joint-sponsor. In that case, I want to prepare for it ahead of time to avoid last minute things.

That's a good goal.  However, if the exact number to qualify is something you are only going to barely exceed, you may well need a joint sponsor anyway.  Consular Officers consider the totality of circumstances, not just whether you meet the minimum income requirement.  NOT meeting the minimum requirements assures the visa WILL NOT be approved without a qualified joint sponsor but meeting them assures nothing.
