Its a good thread, thank you . I have spent 5 years in Ukraine now (first year here learning language) and i last saw my girlfriend last month, so i dont know if that makes my case stronger. Either way, i will apply and come back to this thread to tell you guys how it went. Big thanks

Thank you so much for the reply and advice. Are there any other documents you would advise me to have in hand, just incase?  And i have read online that having return airtickets also helps your case, would you say that is true ?

If you get your visa, you MUST have return ticket.

Yes ,of course, i do not plan to stay in the US illegally , and want to return for my university so, yes, i will have a return ticket. what i meant was having the tickets DURING the interview, as proof of my intent to return, which the good people here have told me will not work in my favor

Your mother's bank account is not needed. You have to remember that this is YOUR application for a visa. Not your mother's.

The CO will want to see proof of why you need to leave the US and go back to Ukraine or Uganda. They don't care much about why you want to visit, therefore Invitation Letters offer no real evidence.

Obviously, students don't have much funds so you explaining that your mother is helping you with the trip is sufficient. But her financial statements and such is not needed.

No. As you already said it looks suspicious to present a new bank account suddenly open in time for a visa application. Your mom pays your fees, you’ll be staying with someone so cost of vacation will be fairly cheap, etc. just be honest.

I am sorry for being a bother, but i have one last question ; does having property in my name in Uganda help my case if i am applying for the tourist visa from Ukraine? Or will it be useless too?

I doubt it will help, after all it’s not tying you to Uganda at the moment...

the problem is, i will apply from Ukraine(Kiev) so i doubt they know anything about our culture as East Africans . As a student i obviously do not support myself ,and trip is paid for my mother .

Embassy personnel are not static in postings. They move around. Visa Applications are usually not decided on the 5 or so minutes of interview. This is adjudicated by several post employees around a table. One of more may have post experience in Africa

Not only that, but property can and is usually taken care of by your family. A plot of land doesn't need you to return

It is true that Embassy personnel rotate among Embassies.  The rest of the post is completely inaccurate.  There is no discussion around a table (unless there is a complicating factor -- and then the interviewing officer will discuss it with a supervisor, not a group at a table).  The decision is, in fact, made during the short interview solely by the interviewing officer in accordance with US law.

Yup, but I still wouldn’t bet on finding someone experienced in Uganda in Ukraine.

You can’t generalize about postings “in Africa”, there are vast differences between the various African regions, as easily shown for example by widely varying denial rates in different embassies.  It could work against a Ugandan if someone’s only experience “of Africa”is in... another region (which I won’t name specifically because some people get upset).

I too am from Africa. and while one cannot make general statement, education is extremely important at least in Eastern Africa, so for the OP, this is a very important factor in his favor ie, that he has to go back and complete his Medical Degree in Ukraine. While there may not be a CO with posting in Uganda, perhaps in parts of Africa

That is also not correct. Many posts and other information indicates that the decision is made BEFORE the applicant even arrives

I’m also from Africa, dude. His ties to the university will be evaluated on what he presents to them, not because he’s from Africa.

Indications from "...many posts and other information" are individual interpretations often based on second-hand opinions and/or speculation.  For non-immigrant visas, there is absolutely no chance that a decision is made before the interview.
