Former GOP Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) suggested Friday that President Trump's reported order to fire special counsel Robert Mueller last year might point to the likelihood that the president was hiding something.

In a tweet Friday morning, Walsh, now a radio host, told followers that Trump's attempts to fire Mueller and deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, along with his firing of former FBI Director James Comey, was an interesting choice for "a guy who says he didn't do anything wrong."

"He fired FBI Dir Comey. He tried to fire Asst FBI Dir McCabe. He wanted to fire Att Gen Sessions. He ordered the firing of Special Counsel Mueller. I could go on," Walsh tweeted.

"For a guy who says he didn't do anything wrong, why does he try to fire everyone who's investigating him?"

Walsh's comments come a day after The New York Times reported that Trump ordered his White House lawyer, Don McGahn, to fire Mueller last June. McGahn reportedly refused the order, threatening to resign from his position instead.

The president has also faced heavy criticism for his firing of Comey, especially after telling NBC's Lester Holt that the Russia investigation was a major reason for Comey's ouster.

Walsh has previously warned Trump over Twitter that attempts to combat the FBI would return to "bite you in the ###"

So Trump:
-Fired acting AG Sally Yates
-Asked FBI director James Comey for loyalty
-Fired FBI director
-Told AG Jeff Sessions not to recuse
-Got very mad when AG recused
-Asked top intel officials (Coates etc) to weigh in on ongoing probe
-Told GOP senators to end Russia probe

-Tried to fire assistant FBI Director McCabe
-Ordered firing of special counsel but was knocked back by his own White House

Yet we still have the majority of Republicans and Conservatives, saying there is nothing to see here, witch hunt, nothing burger etc etc.

In retrospect it's looking like he needs to do a lot of housekeeping at the FBI

Except Trump never attempted to fire Mueller. He didn't even say he was going to fire Mueller. Trump knows you don't interrupt your enemy when they are destroying themself.

Trump said he did not attempt to fire Trump, but if he did Trump supporters would not have an issue with that. Nothing matters.

Fox News' Sean Hannity makes painful u-turn on live TV about Trump trying to fire Robert Mueller

Mr Hannity cast doubt on the credibility of a 'New York Times' report before seeming to confirm the story was true

Fox News host Sean Hannity made a painful u-turn on his show about whether Donald Trump tried to fired Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Mr Hannity, one of Mr Trump’s most loyal supporters, first suggested that a story reporting that the President attempted to ax Mr Mueller was false. But minutes later, he reversed his claim.

“At this hour the New York Times is trying to distract you,” Mr Hannity said on his programme, referring to the newspaper’s report on Thursday saying that Mr Trump ordered White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mr Mueller last summer.
