I don't want to open up my boy to some doxing as I've just outed him as a trustee. Not that I would accuse anyone on here of such nonsense, but you know, better safe and all that. Here's a picture of one in the species:

They're quite small, generally.

LOL, doxing not needed.  If that were my intent, I'd just use your FB account.

Ahh, the Killis.  My interest is due to having spent much of my younger years raising various species myself.  Mostly centered around similar locations, but different species... cichlids.  And guppies, though those were only for food.

I see an aquarium in your living room.

And have to seriously dis-recommend said BMW.  Unless you are a fan of expensive visits to a mechanic.

Funny you say that. I realized I was getting older when I started researching things like maintenance cost and gas mileage before a car purchase, instead of stuff like speed and acceleration.

Sad that it takes us so darn long to wizen up, eh?  Ahhh, youth...

There have been cichlids from time to time, too. He's been an enthusiast since he was a kid. The one thing all the partners of these fish people say again and again is, well, I never need to wonder where my other half is; it's always the fish room.

I got to hang out with the very groovy Joyce (if you remember her) the other year when I tagged along to a fish conference in Phoenix. Much fondue, much polyester.

Funny. Having been in industrial management for 30 years, then making the jump to auto sales. Many people buy on payment alone. It took a long time for me to get my mind around that.

People that buy these high line cars often don't realize they cant afford the maintenance. I would never buy a BMW or Mercedes, unless I was super wealthy and didn't care about the cost to drive factor.

Between a BMW or Mazda it would be no contest. Mazda makes a fairly decent car. I would also add that so many of these car review sites are so influenced by such things as advertising, you cant rely on them

He said first, TDS was Trump D--- Size calibrated in micrometers. When I asked what the modes were, he said, f- if I know. I turn it on, it tells me total dissolved solids in water.

Then we discussed his desire to purchase this: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/cto/d/signal-hill-1991-bmw-850i-48k-mi/7043107138.html

Deep thoughts.

Just saw the ad. OH My the cost of keeping that on the road. I have a co worker who just bought a new 850 X series

I cringe when I hear people basing a purchase on monthly payment. Even if you can afford it, it lets the finance guy get too creative. I decide how much I want to pay in total first, just like any other purchase. It's the same with all these commercials that try to get people to roll credit card debt into their "low interest" mortgage. It's not a deal when you are schedule those low interest payments over 30 years.

My most recent vehicle purchase experience:

I wanted a particular vehicle.  No dealers close too me would give me the price I wanted.  Told me said price was unachievable.  So I expanded my search radius (to include the entire US), and found much better prices, but still not what I was willing to pay.  Had one dealer who was (relatively) close to me tell me I would NEVER see that price point on the vehicle I wanted.  3 days later, after I shared with them what one other dealer (who was SO CLOSE to my price point) offered, said they would BEAT that price, if only I would finance through them (I wanted to pay cash).  I agreed, bought the vehicle, then paid it off three weeks later, and got the vehicle I wanted for the price I wanted to pay (about $6-7K below retail).

NEVER let the dealership decide what you can afford to pay.  (Sorry, NB.  But I know you support the concept, if not the practice.)

Almost exactly what I did. Just emailing around until I got something that worked for me. It was a good deal, and they will make money off my trade in anyway. I don't have the patience for the haggling part of that. They make a little off the financing too so I was OK with that. I'll pay it off next month.

My sales guy was great, but when he was asking for feedback at the very end. I had to let him know the truth. He said even 9/10 comes back as a bad review on his performance. I told him the sales part was great, but the finance guys are killing you. I lost my patience at the end of that ordeal, and it really takes a lot for that to happen. He never emailed me the link for the feedback.

I didn't trade in.  That's personal suicide, compared to selling a vehicle on one's personal time.  But I understand that selling at the same time as buying is convenient.

No i dont. I pretty much make a flat fee per car. Once I know that, i just want to sell the unit and go for volume. I could care less how much the dealer discounts it, and actually work for the customer at that point.

As for, if you do the financing.  Most credit unions and banks pay the dealer a cut. Think how much it saves the credit union for the dealer to originate the loan.

Say the CU pays the dealer a 2% flat. Thats roughly 800 bucks or so on the vehicle you bought.

When you did a refi that dealer got a charge back for most of that money.

yeah, it was about $500 in the dealer's pocket, I'd imagine.

He is telling the truth 95 or below is failing and affects pay. Its messed up and you are right its usually the finance guys that muck it up.

One salesman at my store finished the year with a perfect 100% for the whole year. Glad they didn't grade him on grammar.  Yes twas I. Quite proud of that. I tell my customers.  I was a consumer for 30 years. I am not going to do any of that ####### all buyers hate.

Ps not everyone gets a survey,  its random. The dealer does not send them

Yep, big difference in price, but I don't have the time or patience to do a private sale. I could haggle for a few hundred I guess, but I'm not going to win. I just have a minimum value I'll accept and once they hit that, it's good.
