Made me feel old and marginalized.

Hey, dads are great and none of us would be here without one, even if only as a sperm donor because parthenogenesis isn't really a thing yet for humans. (Sorry, my mom used that word on Christmas and I've been itching for an excuse to use it.)

If I HAD been your daddy, you would certainly have turned out to be a more productive member of society instead of a dependent lib!!  😜

Well, my plan kind of got blown off course when I married someone who refused to let me keep working so I could devote time to making his home life something he didn't need to think about. Before, I had a career path and a job I liked, but I made the mistake of trusting someone who wasn't myself to direct my life. I'll never make that mistake again.

Meh.  Everything is a tradeoff.  Some days, I wish my wife had a job for the extra income.  But in reality, her NOT working makes our home a better place, and she is free to travel whenever she wants.  We don't NEED the money, so why enslave her to a job?

I think it comes down to: are you happy not working? I don't judge those with the means not to. But I am a person who needs to be doing things to feel like an entire person. Things inside and outside the home. Sure, I was very active in charity work and I took classes in journalism and cooking and even cutting silhouettes from black paper (just as ridiculous as it sounds, and I'm hopeless with scissors). But I like to know I am for something beyond looking nice and keeping a lovely home. Don't get me wrong, the charity work I did scratched that itch to some extent. But making a little money for myself, showing up and being accountable, reminds me I am more than a wife or a woman who has enough time on her hands to play Lady Bountiful. I have a little side hustle I'm going to start after the move and I'm so relieved, because I was afraid I'd be stuck in housewife mode again. As I said, nothing wrong with that, just not for me.

Perhaps I am, as my former MIL always used to say, hopelessly middle class. 😊

Having worked almost non-stop since the age of 13 (and even before that on a farm, not for wages, but to put food on the table), I would LOVE to have a stint in life where I wasn't required to work for a while.  It would be nice to be the non-working spouse.  Oh well, retirement is on the horizon, finally...

I'm confused, but not confused enough to use the "confused" reaction.

Sometimes its also psychological. Many people who aren't working also suffer depression. This tends to hit people at retirement age as well, which is why its not uncommon to see people at retirement age take up part time jobs just to do something. All in all, any way someone can keep busy, is likely a good thing. Less likely they're being depressed, destructive, self-destructive, etc., which seems to be our natural inclination when we have nothing to do (or are doing).

Thank you! I did report myself though, which I hope counts for something.

It is not too bad, I prefer to think of it as a VJ Holiday.

But I'm sick and I don't feel like working on my novel at the moment. I'd rather post here than have to actually engage my brain. :P

Please don't.  From your ramblings here, the last thing America needs is to be subjected to a "novel" by you.

Burnley Man U is on NBC.

Well I have to wish you well, and go and spend a few hours clearing snow and getting wood in. Should be minus something tonight.
