agree that if one is planning to leave one’s home country anyway it’s hard to show ties. A schengen type system where you show your return ticket or ticket out might work better for a case like this, but the flip side - and I’ve seen it happen - is if you get refused the visa, you end up way out of pocket on the air ticket and sometimes on all the reserved accommodation you have been required to show in the application. 

There are sites that can set you up with a confirmed flight and reservations for a small fee, you do need to actually buy them.
