What's to see in Kharkov? Staying for a month

I’m planning on visiting Kharkov during the summer season and staying there for a month. The main purpose of the visit is to bond with my girlfriend who lives there. We met when I joined a romance tour not too long ago. For the first week of my stay I’ve already set the things i wanted to do with her. Problem now is what I’ll be doing for the next days.

It’s going to be a long vacation. I need to have a planned itinerary or at least a rough plan so I could set a proper budget. Where could I go in Kharkov? It can be a tourist spot or a local destination. I just need suggestions.

Also, I need transient accommodation suggestions too. I won’t be staying at my girlfriend’s place. I need an apartment that I can rent out for a month. Perhaps an affordable car rental service too. I don’t want to rely everything on my girlfriend. I really need help.

I don’t know anything about Kharkov, but here is some general guidance.

Try Airbnb, for long term accommodations.

You will need to register with the local police when you are there, so know the address of where you are staying.

Talk to your bank about using your card - Russia is a high fraud country and many banks will not let you use your bank card there.

Renting a car can be difficult.  It may be better to just become familiar with public transportation, and use Uber when you need it.

Look into a cell phone plan for when you are there.  I know Verizon finally has a plan for Russia but it is $10 a day.  A better option may be to get a phone in Russia and just purchase a SIM card.

And the more Russian you understand and speak, the easier it is to get around.

Hey. There's plenty of stuff to do in Kharkiv and around—can you please be more specific on what you're up to? Do you prefer going to concerts, or hitting the nightclubs, or maybe you like sunbathing at the beach, or just like to get drank with some local craft beer? :) There are a lot of destinations to go to and a lot of things to see.

A rough survival budget for a single person is like this:

- rent $500 (you can find cheaper rents but they will be in bad areas of the city, not worthy IMO if you're coming just for one month)

- food $300 if you cook at home, $500–600 if you eat out. This includes alcohol.

- transportation $20 if you stick to the public transport and up to $100 if you take Uber almost daily. The average ride is $2–3. Renting a car makes little sense IMO, except if you want to do a road trip somewhere

- entertainment $200 if you mainly stick to the city and surroundings. If you want to travel around or visit other cities, the figure will be higher but obviously I can't predict how higher—you mileage may vary as they say.

Generally speaking, $600/mo is the absolute barest survival threshold and $1000 is the low bar for having a decent time here.

Do not limit yourself to Kharkov, rent an automobile (preferably an SUV, as some of the roads are bad) and travel the country.

Definitely get a local SIM card (Vodafone or Kievstar, ask which one your girlfriend is using) and activate one of the monthly prepaid plans; it is going to be much much less expensive than $10 per day Verizon.
