Hello everyone,

so I just got my passport back with my immigrant visa/permanentresident card inside.

What is my next step? I see that it only lasts a year fromissue date.

Is there anything else else that I should take care of before I move?

Many support with this would be greatly appreciated!

So you have 6 months from your medical date to activate your visa.  Go online to ELIS and pay your immigrant fee within 1 year of moving to get thr hard copy green card.

Before moving stop your CCTB and gst cheques if applicable.  Apply for EI using your new US address.  Open an account that easily transfers money accross the border. I used Royal Bank because once I was employed in the USA they used my Canadian credit report to issue me a non-secured credit card in the USA.  You will be starting from zero so that may or may not be beneficial for you.  Also this gave me a way to transfer my EI cheques to the USA for use.

Enjoy your last little bit in Canada.  Strangely there is culture shock coming down here and you will get homesick.

Out of curiosity did the consulate tell you they are doing away with bringing a packet to the border? Does customs look up this information?
