My Canadian passport has expired, and I'm trying to renew it. Actually, I need a completely new one, since I changed my name when I got married.

The biggest roadblock I'm hitting is getting new passport photos taken. When I lived in Canada, I could just go to a Walmart Photo Center, but the ones local to me do not have regular on-site photographers.  Also, US passport requirements are different than those for Canadian passports.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

I need to get it done soon, as I might need to fly home in the near future for a funeral

Im pretty sure CVS can do it. But I maybe wrong. Although it might require you to explain it to them that the requirements are different form the US passport, and show them the sheet with what is required for the photo.

Another option is to fly to Canada with your US passport (assuming you are a USC now), along with your Canadian birth certificate or Canadian citizenship certificate.  If CBSA asks you for a Canadian passport just explain it to them, and then get you Canadian passport issued when you are visiting there. I'm pretty sure if you pay extra they will have the passport ready in 3 days in Canada.

$5 for 4 photos at Costco, pretty sure you can ask them to cut the photos in the size you need.

It doesn't work to cut the photo's.  They need to be in the right proportion inside the template.  I had the same problem here in Las Vegas.  I googled "International Passport Pics"  I found a service that had the computer program that did the pictures of most countries.  In Canada Shoppers Drug mart asks "for which county" and they set the photo requirements for that country.  Costco is not correct nor CVS.  Do a search for International pics in your area...there must be a photographer doing it.

Last time I required Cdn passport pics while in the DC area, I just googled passport picture taking....and found a small mom/pop place that was able to do them

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hello,

Have you tried any passport photo Apps?

I've take my own, inputted the size (by choosing which Country you need them for), and printed them out at CVS

You cannot use an app. Canadian passport photos must have the store/photographers info or stamp and signature

To answer some questions:

  • I need photos for a NEW Canadian passport, since the one I entered the US with is now expired, and had my maiden name on it (I changed to my name when we got married)
  • I am a Legal Resident but not a USC at this time
  • I'm in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area of VA
  • No, I cannot go to a drug store/post office/use an app because the photos must be taken by an actual photographer, who then writes their info on the back.

I did find a place local to me that should work.  I will follow up with results when things happen
