I am due to have my visa medical next tuesday (30th january). I am getting so anxious. I have my general summery and my reports. My physical health is now good. But I have aspergers, depression (has included some minor self harm attempts), anxiety and anorexia (which I am very stable with now). The anorexia issues were late last year and one self harm incident that was minor. My anxiety and depression has been hard with the visa as it is stressful. I have worked and will be able to work once I move. Can they deny you for previous self harm, depression, anxiety, anorexia and aspergers? I just am so scared they will deny me for it. I am taking my reports like they ask. My aspergers doesn't really effect me too much anymore now I'm 24. I socialise pretty much normally people can't even tell I have it. And my anorexia despite a recent relapse last year is now stable and I'm eating completely normal.

The advice I have found regarding depression/self harm is that you will need a letter from your Dr., your medical report won't be enough on its own.  Somewhere in that letter they will need to be able to say that they 'do not deem you to be a risk to yourself or others'. I believe those are considered the all important words. I have not got my appt yet but I do have my letter from my Drs ready to go. if there is anything they are concerned about they might send you for a psychiatric evaluation. I believe that it's not a bad experience and they just want to be sure things are ok now. If you search for it you'll find some people who have experienced that and written about it on this website.

Yeah I've tried finding info but struggled to find anything on mental health found more physical conditions. I am going to my doctor tomorrow. I will ask them for a note saying my mental health is now stable then. If they are concerned at the medical I will also happily consent to any further evaluation. Just so they can be reassured I am stable with my mental health now. I just don't want my past self harm and issues to prevent my visa. I've worked so hard to get this far and become so stable.

Other self-harming individuals have received visas from London. You GP needs to write the magic words that you are "no longer a threat to yourself or others". Just saying you are "stable" isn't enough. You also need a write up on your anxiety, anorexia and aspergers. Diagnosed when? Treatment? Meds? Ongoing or cured? Prognosis for occurring again?

I wouldn't use the visa excuse at the medical as if that ends and you are stress free forever. There's years more immigration processes ahead and many other things in life that are worse than applying for a visa.

You can do this!

I've not actually had any treatment for depression, anxiety and my aspergers. Just diagnosis. Will that be enough showing the reports on diagnosis? Because I have nothing for treatment. And my anorexia I was diagnosed then discharged which I requested. But they've worded it "because I feel I'm stable". Which is annoying. They didn't do anything to check as such. I am contacting the eating disorder team for another note saying I AM stable and for them to clarify that. Then also getting the doctors note.
