I could move and work as a doctor in any of those counties, but it would take some time so we needed her job to help support us. She ended up taking VR during a merger, and even still now no one is hiring in exploration really.

Yeah, I fully understand the need of moving for the job.  Debating Atlanta in my near future, though I dread the idea of being in a big city again.

 

Plus I hear the GA car salesmen can be dangerous.  They tend to drive down the middle of the roads...

 

I also consider a Caribbean job, mostly for the location.  But the pay is horrible.  Decisions, decisions...

We still would have done it if she continued in her job, but there was too much job insecurity in her field. Still is.

I know what you mean I have several friends of mine who I served with who are oilmen now. They love the money but it's hard work.

Yeah I just started a new job and it's kinda hard dealing with the new hours. Friday is an actual workday here, not like in my last job where we called it Flyday.

I do about half and half posting via phone and computer. I'm in a pathology conference so I get distracted easily.

Hard work and still sort of a bust right now...getting better though.

 

Her experience is very upstream (new ventures) which is the last thing to recover from a downturn. Still not there yet. Out of a job for 2 years this summer.

She's not a big teaching person. She has a masters, has thought about going back for a PHD. She is keeping busy at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences (volunteer work) and working with the Houston Geological Society (also volunteer work).

That's cool I used to work for the US Geological Survey installing, maintaining seismic sites and the telecommunication networks associated with them.

The USA was last on the list. She only moved here because in the interim the oil price tanked, her job prospects declined and we're here because I have a steady job. We'll be gone if she ever gets an job offer elsewhere.

 

I'm not saying the USA is a bad place. There are a lot of places that are worse. But at least for us there were several places that were better. Canada would have also probably been on the list as well, but her company didn't have offices there.

I would love to travel back and forth and live in both Australia and the US one day but for now my parents are not in great health so my husband was great and moved here. Lucky for us that my in-laws love travelling so they don't think anything about jumping on a plan for a visit and I LOVE going to Australia to visit his family.
