That is very true. But it is true how certain states love to nickle and dime you for anything and everything they can. That is one reason why I just moved from CA to NC last month, CA will nickle and dime you for EVERYTHING until you die and then ask your family to pay a death tax.

I live in Baltimore City and we have a rain water tax.... yes we are taxed on rain fall.

Just in case you find this unbelievable. Haha

You're right, it's a minimal requirements, for most jobs to have atleast atleast an AS.

Some employers even ask for a bachelor for jobs that really don't need such a degree, with a preference for a Master's. But they pay just $25,000 a year...

I believe it's safe to say there is a discrepancy between the minimum financial requirements and what living in America really costs. I also believe that this need to be changed, make it more realistic so people can make a solid choice. America isn't the land of opportunities any longer, most people won't become a millionaire by just having a "great idea".

A good example is that F-1 students only need to proof that they meet minimal financial requirements for the first year. When I lived in LA that was for some colleges as low as $16000 a year. This includes tuiton, rent, food, gas.

That's just not realistic. Same for petitioning for a spouse or other family members. The minimum requirements are a joke if you consider how expensive living here is, and if you're not relying on government support that's definitely not enough.

Aren't there many bachelor degrees that don't really prepare anyone for anything?

I know Seattle does that as well. They actually tax you the dimensions of your roof to see how much water you displaced. Also they allowed the ditches to be covered in a lot of areas and gardens to be made out of it for the water to collect. You know collected and stagnant water doesn't lead to any sort of mosquito borne illnesses at all right.

I am surrounded by people some of who did not finish high school who make 150K+ a year. There is a huge demand for skilled workers, and almost every city of any size has good technical schools, that you can usually do in a year or less. Its nothing for good electricians, computer, sheet metal, welders, HVAC, fabricators to make 70-80K + a year. Skilled trades are just as in demand if not more.

Why do so many people go to a university, generate a huge amount of debt, get a degree that is essentially worthless, then complain incessantly about it when there are so many other lucrative potentials out there?  Do they not want to get their hands dirty, or break a sweat?

Yep these days a BS is basically a glorified high school diploma unless you have a path which you choose a specific degree for but this is the current america we live in.

For sure, I'm at the point that I'm starting to think that pushing people to go to college is a scam.

Unless you're studying to become engineer, doctor or any other specific job, I don't see why people should go to college. I think learning a trade or a skill is much more beneficial.

Yep. There are many actual Bachelor Majors that don't prepare you for anything at all unless you go back into academia. So people get a degree in medieval dance and can't do anything with it, when in reality it would have been a good minor but not a major.

I personally know and dated a woman who was a Art History major in college that did not find out until the end of Junior year that there was no actual jobs out there for her unless it's in academia. So she graduated in 2006 and did not get an actual job in her field until just last year. She was working a bank teller from 2006 to last year to earn end's meat.

You mean a BA because usually a BS has some actual field that you can work in. Just like I have a B.S. in IT specifically Information/Cyber Security.

I agree with the exception of some STEM degrees.  Most BSs in STEM can lead to pretty good employment that may include benefits to pay for further education.

I am in my 30s now but when i was in middle school and high school many trade schools were actually being closed due to budget cuts.

Now I am saying this, I KNOW IT IS NOT TRUE, but in my generation going to trade school was looked down upon and college was encouraged. Now people are realizing my generation has school loan debt with mediocre jobs and realize trade schools are often a great alternative to college education. In fact were I grew up it is now competitive to get into trade programs.

Does it fluctuate? Like you pay less when it doesn't rain much?

It is a scam just like the TrumpU thing.  There are public and private universities that recruit folks to come to college and when they end up in worthless degree programs, they could not care less since the money is rolling in.

I hear the term STEM degrees and I am actually not familiar with them. I was lucky and ended up in a good career in healthcare but healthcare requires excessive education to work in these days. I had to get my Doctorate to become a Physical Therapist, it is required for US license and examination.

Same age here(34) and I remember those times in the late 90's early 00's where trade schools were looked down on and some actually closed. It was all the rage for us to go to a 4 year college(luckily I went into the Marines) because we were all going to come out and have good jobs supposedly. Now Trade schools are back in because you can get a schooling in a trade that is needed for not much money, in fact a lot of Community Colleges in NC do them for CHEAP.
