Ok I understand that, but how are lets say chinese immigrants in Canada taking care of there family members in China ? I mean do all parents of immigrants have to come here so that they can live with them here when they are old. I am sure the USD goes a long way in China.

Good point, I'm not sure really. I was under the impression that it's much easier to get a visitor visa to Canada or a schengen visa to Europe. Like I wrote before, my wife would rather take care of her mother here than just send money so she has to take care of herself when she's 80

By the way, I'm looking into insurance options for my mom (her interview is Tuesday so she might make the cut lol) and I'd be much better off getting her travel insurance in Italy. It'd reimburse pretty much everything up to whatever cap I choose.

Yes, you have to advance cash, but you get it all back. Something to think about it. The cost would be much much lower.

This probably won’t work for immigrants because as soon as they enter the us they become residents here and most travel insurance require you to be resident in the country in which the insurance is purchased.

If elderly parent is rich than s/he is not qualified for MediCal

Look I am sympathetic I think Its very nice to take care of your old family members and its honorable. But eventually the lines will blur. Of course if she makes it here she will one day be on Medicare. Like if she becomes a citizen. I dont blame anyone that does it, its legal and the law of the land currently. But I dont think good because parents mostly are net loss and cost taxpayers like me money that could go elsewhere. Like paying our trillions off in debt or to infrastructure . And yes you and your wife a probably good hard working taxpayers, but you would have to do that regardless if they come here or not. So it will be a net loss always.

I have been to China actually, and they got quite a lengthy visa process themselves. Its virtually impossible to immigrate to China, they dont have any of the categories that they have here and its nearly impossible if you are not super specialized to become a long term immigrant let alone receive citizenship .

Residence is elective in Italy though. You basically choose what your residence is. Obviously tax authorities deem you a resident if you meet physical presence test (183 days) or center-of-interest test (no one in his/her sane mind would elect to be a tax resident of Italy unless they are living there).

Not all of them, there are insurances for people who move abroad. The problem with most of the premiums of this insurances is that they are reasonable as long as you're using it for Europe, Asia, Africa....as soon as it's America they jack up the prices because it's more expensive.

Some States programs don't fall under what is covered by the I-864.

Obamacare for instance is available to all new immigrants.

Emergency Medicaid is always allowed.

I'm well aware of how Medicaid works.

I was asking about a future change. If the concern is the elderly parents becoming a burden, then increase the financial requirement and exclude immigrant parents from our "socialized" healthcare system for the elderly.

Allow parents to come as long as they are able to provide their own care financially (or make the petitioner truly responsible).

The raise act would 100% allow you to do that. You will be allowed to bring your parents here with a residential permit. You would be responsible for covering their health insurance.

Like I wrote earlier in this thread, I only disagree about not being able to bring a parent. Not everyone immigrates here from Europe where their folks are taken care of by the system after retirement. In Asia they expect you to take care of them.

And as for the terrorist guy, I don't even know who came up with the diversity visas. That should definitely be eliminated.

This isn’t Asia so I find it baffling following that mindset. I’ll use my MIL as an example - she would be dead miserable here and my wife knows it.

I did not know that, though I wouldn’t call it travel insurance then. That’s interesting, I had seen extended insurance for those on k1 to the end of their 90 day

No where. I'm thinking from the definition of "sponsorship". Isn't it the case for spousal GC, poverty guidelines, etc?
