Is it really immigration we as Americans have a problem with? Or is it immigrants?

Lisa, this is what I wrote.

Do you see your name in there?

It's not always about you, hun.

And I ask you WHO you're referring to....do YOU have a problem with them? But so far, you have yet to say who you're referring to.

Come on now, You were discussing what I said. And since I've been v vocal against illegal immi AND unlimited illegal immi...who else would you be referring to? I don't mean just me..but anyone like me who believes along the same way of thinking. 'Is it really immigrants?' lol.

No one's really that stupid, hon.

Oh, I don't have a probbo with you calling me that if that's what you want. It's the whole 'what makes you think that's about you' bit that I find silly.

I'm sorry, but I find it VERY hard to believe that RJ sat typing that line thinking 'This will fix you, LisaD!'

I remember in my grammar classes the concept of 'you understood'. Meaning such a sentence refers to a greater population ('we' as in all Americans) and not a particular person or persons. This isn't a textbook example of that, I don't suppose, but that's how I read it anyway.

22 out of 40 participants in a VJ poll want to DECREASE immigration for BOTH legal and illegal

5 want to increase

13 want to stay the same

more than 1/2 want to decrease? its an interesting outcome on this website.

Because of this post, I went over and looked at the poll, and the results just shocked me. 15 people want to demand English fluency before people can come here.

I don't think they're thinking it through, but hey, if their third-world significant others have to pass a fluency test, should make my journey shorter . It's a little weird, given that the requirements for the fiancée/spouse visa are so, well, ridiculously easy, that people seem to think that *they* obviously have a right to their just-met-internet-partner, but a legal worker is just too many immigrants. I mean, really. You have to meet in person once, and look like you intend to get married. And that makes you more legit than a legal worker?

Guess what, folks. If immigration is restricted, I'd be willing to bet that most Americans would want to kill the fiancé visa before they'd want to kill the worker visas or asylum visas. Fiancé visas aren't very sympathetic.

I have no problems with rational arguments. What I don't understand is the rage towards these CRIMINALS. Who are here ILLEGALLY and who are pandered to by the LIBERAL MEDIA!

I wouldn't have a problem if they did away with the fiance visa. Hah, seems strange since we're pursuing one...but we chose it because we felt it was the 'path of least resistance' and if it wasn't an option, we'd do the spousal visa. Even if they put harder restrictions on the spousal visa and raised the bar on requirements. I do feel there are many who use the fiance visa as a 'dating' visa, and if there would be a decrease in a certain visa....it should not be the work visas that suffer.

I do wonder, in the scheme of things, where politicans priorities would lie in "immigration reform" - agricultural workers in California, which almost every study I've read has suggested are economically necessary as a true shortage of workers exists, or fiance visas, especially for those who have physically been together once or twice.

I think guest worker visas for the agricultural industry are probably an easier sell, especially when you see the failure rate for marriage for fiance visas.

I would be okay with it, too. Had we to do it over again, we would have married at the courthouse last August and filed for a K-3.

I guess my point is that if you look at 'who has a right to come to the U.S.', that's mostly determined by what the U.S. needs, and it might very well need agricultural workers more than it needs some guy to be able to petition for his latest impoverished submissive fiancée (certainly the stereotype that would make the decision.)

I agree. I'd have no problem marrying Chas and then doing a spousal visa if that's what it took. Are fiance visas really that much faster anymore?
