It is the illegal entry that is getting in the way.  Nobody can adjust to resident without a legal entry

I-864, Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the INA

Every USC petitioner is required to provide the I-864.  This has no effect on your illegal status

If you get married you can get a Greencard but u will need to file a waiver.

Your brother can't help you plus it's a 15 year wait for the sibling category.

For your brother to petition you, you're looking at ~20 years for Mexico (if the category is even still around). The rules surrounding all the circumstances here may have changed by then.

You would need to interview abroad. Upon exit from the US, you would receive a 10 year bar due to 1+ year of unlawful presence.

Having a USC spouse with a bona fide marriage (not just for immigration benefits) would decrease the petition timeline to ~12-14 months. You would also be eligible to file for an I-601A provisional waiver for the 10 year bar.* You would still need to interview abroad.

*Important...if you have entered without inspection in the past, been deported, overstayed, etc., then there may be a 9C bar instead. This is a permanent bar, only waivable after 10 years abroad.

We'd need more details on how exactly your friend was "helped" to comment on that.

Legally, right now you have no basis to adjust status from within the US.

I think you should keep an eye on politics and immigration reform. I think both republican and democrats could work out a deal for illegal people in the country already. The suggestions are very different and it is unclear what a final bi-partisan law could include or exclude. I think a former immigration bill that was widely supported but never received a chance for final vote, included a path to legal status for illegals in the country already.

Does not sound like the OP has DACA

I am talking about the gang of 8 bill that had wide support but was never pulled for voting. He should look out for a similar bipartisan bill in the next 10 years to come...
